is this a standard microsd card or is it proprietary? I have other sd cards and am thinking aboit getting a vita, not sure if I should also buy this.

The PS Vita requires this memory card, it is not like a standard for a phone or tablet. Sony did this purposefully so you would have to buy it.

I am getting the Playstation TV. I guess this kind of card is needed is you want any space. It is so expensive. Is this the only card that will work with the Playstation TV?

You need a playstation card. They come in 4,8, 16, and 32gig versions. The playstation tv bundle comes with a dual shock 3 and an 8g card and the Lego movie game. Might be a better deal. There is also a 64g card available in japan.
