Stable and small
I was using TBT3-UDZ with Plugable previous, and my wife took it away. So I wanted something to replace it and try to address a few points of possible improvements. The top requirement is that TBT3-UDZ was too big, taking up a lot of space on my desk and I don't really need 4 screens, and the card readers are mostly useless to me.So I actually tried like 5 other brand's smaller, thinner docks, but none of them worked fine. All of them either does not support high refresh rate properly; causes USB devices to drop from time to time which is super annoying; or does not wake up after a period sleep.Eventually I came back to Plugable, and am very satisfied with TBT3-UDC3. It has no problem with everything, works as it should, virtually trouble free. The only downside is perhaps this is slightly more expensive than other options.Would totally recommend this.

Not so great. Constant blinking with monitor.
I’ve been using this for about 4 days with a MacBook Pro 16in and when it works it’s great. But the issue is when it works, I have 2 monitors connected via hdmi for both (using the hdmi-dvi adapter provided as well). I have a curved dell 32in as my main display and my side display is an acer 1080p monitor. The Acer monitor will blink rapidly and I find the only solution will be to either put the MacBook to sleep which will work about half the time and if not then I will have to reset the whole computer. Sometimes even then it will not work. Power cycling the dock will not fix it as well. This is pretty critical as if it’s in the middle of my workflow then it is a huge inconvenience. Which is the exact opposite of why I even bought this.I’ll be reaching out to support to see if there’s a fix and I’ll update this review once I do but so far this is looking like a waste for me and not at all worth me having a one plug set up. I’d rather have to plug in 2 different cables then deal with this.4/2021 UPDATE:Reached out to support about the constant blinking for the HDMI connection and was told there was an update that can be made to the firmware. They gave me the option to download the update software (windows only) or they can send me a new dock with the firmware. I was able to update the docks firmware via Windows bootcamp successfully and after trying it out the HDMI monitor no longer blinks constantly after waking from sleep. It will sometimes go black when waking from from sleep for about a second but after that it will go back to normal. Used it for about a week and now I'm going on a month and no blinking. so far so good and I get the convenience of using a one cable dock.

Update: It Doesn't Really Work
Update: Giving one star because now the dock has decided that I must unplug and re-plug in the power connecter (the cable going from the dock to the wall outlet) in order to get the dock to talk to my monitors. Otherwise, my laptop can receive power from the dock, but it won't show up on my monitors. The return window closed 4 days ago and now I've wasted ~$170 on something I'm not even going to use anymore. One of my monitors flashes green and glitches for a moment before showing up properly. Besides that, it works, no bells or whistles. I wish more of the USB ports provided enough power to charge my phone. The port on the front doesn't provide enough power to do this, so I have to reach around the dock and use a port on the rear, which is annoying in my current setup. I'll probably have to re-arrange my desk as a result.

Plenty of ports in a solid compact package
Just as I was on the verge of buying the slightly bigger brother to this TB3 dock, this new model was released and became available on Amazon. Happy I waited as this one is a perfect mix of functionality and ergonomics. It's much more compact than it appears in the product pictures and looks great and the packaging is very good. The space gray finish goes perfectly with a MacBook. Set up was a breeze as my 13" MacBook (2016 non-touch bar) recognized it instantly. Nice touch for Plugable to include the DP to HDMI active adapter, though I found using a DP cable from the DP port to my monitor provided smoother wakeup from sleep mode. (Occasionally that monitor would not start up after the laptop resumed. Using the DP cable cleared that up.) Otherwise no complaints whatsoever. Highly recommended for anyone looking for solidly-built TB3 dock offering a good mix of ports and easy connection for multiple monitors.

glitchy hdmi
I purchased this dock so I can easily connect either my work computer (2019 16" MacBookPro) or my personal computer (2020 13" M1 MacBook Pro). For my work setup I use 2 monitors so I had both the HDMI and DP ports in use. There are 2 important things to know:HDMIThe issue I had was with the HDMI cutting out when booting or coming back after displays went into power save; I would have to close and re-open the laptop screen to get the HDMI to come back. I never have that issue with my USB-C to HDMI cable. That, plus the limited features of the dock (no SD, no thunderbolt through port) at that price point was not impressing me and just ended up returning the unit. I spent quite a bit of time with tech support and they were very professional and knowledgeable but it just came down to poor implementation. I ended up with a lower cost thunderbolt 3 dock with SD card and a thunderbolt through port.96 Watt ChargingRunning heavy workloads on Intel CPUs is very power consuming. My 16" MacBook Pro runs hot with fans whirring all day. Maybe 85 will work for my setup, but I've tried 60 Watt docks and they cannot even keep up with running the computer so my battery slowly dwindles as it pulls the needed difference. This Plugable dock, however, does have 96W going to the computer so it can keep up and charge the battery. For my M1, 96W is overkill.Pros: solid build, 4K support, no drivers needed for Mac, great support, 96W chargingCons: HDMI chipset seems to have issue coming back from power save, no thunderbolt through port, cost.Would I recommend this product? No, because there are lower cost alternatives even if you have a simpler setup.
