I bought this refractometer because it makes taking gravity levels easier during the beer brewing process. I only need to use a few drops of wort to get a reading instead of the 4 oz needed for a hydrometer reading. It's also convenient because I don't have to measure it at a specific temperature.To get a reading, I fill up the dropper with wort, add a few drops inside the refractometer, then close it back up. Then simply look through the scope and measure where white and blue meet to form a line. Sometimes there's too much or too little light, so I have to point it where there is less or more respectively.As a note, this is measured in Brix, not actually gravity. You have to convert it.

Great product at a good price. Wish I would have gotten the one with dual scales to include SG.

We have been guessing at the readiness of our fruit for harvest. Now we have another method to determine the perfect time to pick. The instrument is compact and easy to carry to the vineyard and it is so easy to use.

If you want to measure the quality of the vegies you grow (or buy at the store) this is the instrument that does it quickly and easily.

The unit works well enough. The BRIX converts to something verifiable with a hydrometer. After calibration it does work well and gives great and easy readings.However the claim that this unit comes with 5 pipettes is absolute garbage. There is only one. This would not be a problem if they simply said that it comes with one, but they lied and said it comes with 5. Why would you lie on something that literally costs you pennies.
