Q: Is there a way not to mark or tear the game pieces so it might be re-used? Say if you resorted to a paper pad or something?

Yes! I've played The Abandoned Cabin and Secret Lab and it's possible even without copying some parts. Sometimes it just makes some riddles harder to solve, sometimes you may need extra materials (something transparent to draw on, paper and some time to make game component). The color printer will be the best option. But all this will divert attention from the game, and can slightly spoil the impression. So better play it as it designed, it's worth it.P.S. Q: Can you play this work a group of teens split into teams?

I wouldn't suggest it. With two small groups maybe but you'll have to make copies of everything. There are many other escape room type games out there that may work with what you're asking but this is not a great choice for it. Go to Boardgame Geek website and do a search there for suggestions.

Q: Trying to think of something fun for two colleagues and myself to play instead of a lame ice-breaker. Would three 30-ish year olds have fun? Too easy?

Two of us 60+ year olds played with two early 30's players and they did way better than we did! It was a lot of fun and something different from a board or card game. This game was rated "medium" and wasn't too easy or too hard. The 30's players loved it so much, they ordered 3 more different scenarios. I say give it a try!
