Weld through like it says.
I had never used weld through primer before (didn't know it existed really!) and I was very pleased with the result. Sprays out like any other primer/paint and dries very fast so you don't have to wait long before welding. Welding through this primer doesn't cause expensive smoke or spatter in fact the resulting welds are quite clean, highly recommend.

Maximum adhesion for bare metal—lays down incredibly smooth!
If you're prepping bare metal, aluminum, or steel for a paint job, this Seymour Self-Etching Primer is the absolute best way to ensure your topcoat sticks flawlessly. It cuts right through the surface microscopic layer to chemically bond, preventing any future peeling or flaking. • Superior Chemical Bond: It bites into bare metal perfectly. It’s exactly what you need for automotive repairs, spot priming, or any metal project where regular primer just won't cut it. • Outstanding Corrosion Resistance: Beyond just being a base coat, it seals the metal completely to prevent rust from forming underneath your paint over time. • Smooth, Even Spray: The nozzle performance on this professional line is fantastic. It delivers a fine, uniform mist with zero spitting or clogging, laying down flat and smooth without running easily. • Fast Drying & Easy to Sand: It dries quickly to a tough, clean finish. If you need to do any light block sanding before your color coat, it feathers out beautifully without loading up your sandpaper. • Great Coverage: A little goes a long way. The coverage is excellent, hiding minor surface imperfections and providing a perfect, uniform color base for whatever paint you put over it. This is a top-tier, professional-grade primer that saves you from paint failure down the road. Highly recommended for any serious bodywork or metal fabrication project!

Hardcore Primer for Serious Projects - Just Give It Time to Do Its Thing
If you're in the trenches working on real metal projects, this Seymour self-etching primer should be on your shelf. It bites into bare metal like a champ and lays down a solid base for welding or topcoating, but you’ve got to treat it right. Here’s the deal: This stuff isn’t your average rattle-can spray. It needs time to cure properly. Sure, it's dry to the touch in under an hour, but if you're planning to weld on it, do yourself a favor and wait a full 24 hours. Try to jump the gun too soon, and you'll get a little flame show when you strike an arc. Ask me how I know. Once it’s fully cured, though? It welds beautifully. Smooth arcs, no drama, no weird burn-throughs or splatter. Just clean, dependable results. But remember, this is a primer, not a miracle coating. It’s not designed to take abuse or resist solvents on its own. If you're spraying it in a spot that sees wear, solvents, or contact, make sure to topcoat it. Otherwise, it’ll wipe away or flake off easier than you’d expect. That’s not a flaw, that’s just the nature of self-etching primers. Bottom line: this is a killer value for a weld-through primer. I’ve gone through multiple cans on different projects: chassis work, brackets, patch panels, and it’s never let me down. Just respect the dry time, topcoat where needed, and you’re golden. Seymour knows what they’re doing with this stuff. Highly recommended.
