I got this for my 10 year old grandson who was visiting for a week. We started the crystal the first day he was here and put it on top of the refrigerator. After two days we could see a large crystal in the container, but we left it undisturbed for the remainder of the week. At the end of the week we had a large, (about 3 inches high) beautiful red crystal. I've done similar projects in the past and know that it is important to leave the container undisturbed until the crystal is fully grown. Also it grows much faster in a warm place. The top of the refrigerator is perfect because the warm air from the compressor blows up there, and it is much less likely to be disturbed than an area such as the kitchen counter. The price is perhaps a little high for just a bag of chemical and a plastic container, but it was worth it to me not to have to hunt these things down.

I bought this for my little brother and he enjoyed getting to grow his own crystals. They are more like borax crystals. Youre not going to get beautuful large points. Fun for kids and preteens

Had to edit this review because indeed the crystals did grow and are very pretty. The kids love them, My grandchildren were excited about these crystal growing experiments and helped me "make" them. We followed the directions exactly and set them in a place where no one would disturb them and waited and waited. Finally after 8 days, we could see a little hint of crystals growing. Now it has been over 2 weeks and still they are barely showing at the top of the liquid. Next time we will try them in the summer when it is really warm here in Phoenix. We really don't have a good warm spot to put them since my daughter has a built-in refrigerator. The directions say to have them in temps more than 68 degrees but it really needs to be much warmer. The house is showing 72 degrees and I guess it needs to be warmer. Still, the kids keep watching so not a bad thing!

Sometimes you get good crystals, sometimes you don't. This might stem from the option to mix colors; the seed rocks are small and sparse, and you usually end up with a piddly crystal, like in my third picture. The first picture is the first crystal I made, and it turned out okay (it may have melted a bit when I loosened it up with water. Plus, rinsing the crystals causes the colors to wash out.) In the second picture, the crystal turned out really well. Every other crystal I tried to make (I tried about six or seven total) didn't turn out well and I had to throw them away. And sometimes the crystal starts to grow out of the cup, even if you don't over fill it or spill it, and it makes a mess out of whatever it's sitting on. It's especially bad if you want to keep the jar to display the crystal is. How well the crystal turns out may have to do with the color you try to make, but I'm not going to experiment any more. I've had better crystal making kits than this. I wouldn't give this as a gift, because they might be disappointed if it doesn't work.

My grandaughter loved this. It was smaller than I thought it would be but they didn't have any trouble growing the crystals.

First off, let me say that you only get enough product to make one crystal. Although it comes with three colored packets, you have to decide which color to make between the three. I bought this for my daughter and she decided she wanted purple so we combined two scoops of the dark red with two scoops of the blue. We followed the instructions to the letter, boiled water, put in the solution and stirred till it dissolved, let it cool to room temp, and then slowly added the colors without stirring. I then placed it on the top of my fridge where it was not disturbed. Fifteen hours later ... it was nothing but colored water. It literally did nothing! No crystal formation whatsoever. Would not recommend.

I bought this for my daughter for christmas. We received the colorless one but she was still really excited about it. We mixed up the solution yesterday afternoon and my daughter waited impatiently. When we got up this morning we were rewarded with a big crystal in the container. I was worried it was not going to grow but this is pleasantly surprising and my daughter's eyes were as big as saucers when she saw how big it was after not even one full day. This kit really works I just wish you could choose the color.

No crystal formation as it was claimed.waited for two weeks.Disappointed

Me llego el producto equivocado, lo quería para un regalo y abrí la caja para sacarlo y envolverlo el día del evento y me voy dando cuenta que no es, que coraje!!!

Por mas que leímos las instrucciones y se dejo quieto el recipiente, nada que se le asemeje al resultado que debía tener. Ademas es una MINI cajita. Te entretiene si, pero el resultado es muy decepcionante.
