Very Reliable Device for Audio Streaming - No Regrets

We originally had a Panasonic audio streamer for few years, which is no longer manufactured by them. It usually went down once in about two weeks for some reason. So it needed to be restarted manually and then it started streaming again. When it finally died, that was a reason for us to replace it with a new reliable device. After many hours of researching for a device to meet our needs, I landed on the Barix’s site. After reading what it can do and contacting their customer service, they suggested this Instreamer. Although it is far expensive for our purpose, we had no choice since we needed a standalone device that can stream audio directly from an amplifier output without having a computer in between. So we took the chance and purchased it.Here is our simple setup... Amplifier output is connected to Barix Instreamer which is then connected to the Internet via an Ethernet cable attached to the router. As for audio hosting, we are using an Icecast provider. It can also be used with Shoutcast hosting. The device's configuration and instructions are somewhat easy to understand. You can contact their customer service if you have any questions by email. They did get back to me, although within one to two days. The output quality is very good, but the quality is mostly based on the $$ service you sign-up with the hosting provider. We signed-up with 64kbps which is good enough for most audio streaming. We didn't need HD quality either. If you want to listen to our broadcast to get an idea, it is being broadcasted at [...].But this device has been the most reliable device. It has worked for over six months and has NOT gone down even once to my knowledge. I haven't received a phone call or heard from any of our members stating that audio is not working. I highly recommend this Barix Instreamer if your setup cannot have a dedicated computer in between for audio streaming.

Neat little box

This is the only product we could find on the market for a "decent" price that allows encoding of audio streaming without using a computer. Since we stream live events we run an audio chord straight from our soundboard to the streamer, then to the internet to our streaming host. We do not have to use any type of computer program such as Sam Broadcaster. The new, upgraded Barix Instreamer has greatly improved the original product. The biggest improvement is the auto reset. The instreamer saves your settings so if your stream is interrupted due to power failure, once the power is restored, the box automatically begins streaming again. The instreamer is fairly easy to set up, but it may take some time to get the settings correct under the "audio" tab. We found that although we set the rate to 32kbps we were actually streaming at 59kbps which caused a conflict with our host computer and kept getting our stream shut down and also made the audio extremely garbled. After adjusting the settings lower the problems were solved. Instreamer

Barix is the best for encoding and decoding audio streams.

If you know what it is then you know why you buy it. Its simply the best audio encoder for sending audio to Shoutcast V1 and V2 servers as well as Icecast. It takes RCA inputs and encodes it to the server that you have setup in the web gui. If you need balanced audio then get the Barix Exstreamer 500. I use over 12 different Barix units in Broadcast FM and never has one died or failed for any reason. Support is helpful and friendly. They are built like a tank and have a great intereface.

Very reliable and perfect for internet radio stations but....

Update: I recently purchased the Barix Exstreamer 100 and compared the quality of the audio going into this Instreamer with the audio coming out of the Extreamer and I must say it is negligible. I still can't get the metadata working so it lost a star. Now, I'm well experienced in IP audio, SHOUTcast, internet radio etc. but this gave me hell to configure, the manuals are not up-to-date but customer support was helpful. I finally got it working, I love the fact that it takes 5 seconds or less to reboot. I'm using it in an internet radio environment to stream to SHOUTcast but not yet happy with the quality, I got to "play" with the settings again, I wish I didn't have to. I would like it to send metadata to the streaming server but I'm yet to get a RS-232 to USB cable. It lost a star for configuration and one for quality.

Worked like a charm

Worked like a charm. We use it at our hotel for our house background music. Cheaper than trying to run speaker wire 500 feet across to the other side of the building.
