2013 album from the Swedish Metal quartet. Many bands play it safe. Hardcore Superstar don't. They had the guts to marry two styles that grew up hating each other - Thrash Metal and Sleaze Rock. The former hard, aggressive and ugly, the latter catchy, melodic and decadent. The bastard child's name? Street metal! C'mon Take on Me is produced by the band and mixed by no less a figure than Randy Staub (Metallica, Mötley Crüe, the Cult), slapping you in the face like a highly-energized slab of Crüe and Poison.

It's not their best, but the album still rocks hard and furious
Swedish band Hardcore Superstar released their ninth studio album "C'mon Take on Me" in 2013. The album sees the band return after a three year absence with the butt-kicking hard rock we all know and love. The album is definitely a solid slice of Swedish “street metal,” but I couldn’t help but feel that there was a little unevenness with this album over previous efforts."C'mon Take on Me" follows the formula that Hardcore Superstar has perfected over the last decade or so: crunching guitars, great choruses and riffs and tremendous Swedish melody. The record does tend to move up and down some of the time, but it never deters too much to make you think the album is weak. You undoubtedly have some of the bands best and most creative work on the record with songs like "Above the Law," "One More Minute," “Because of You” and “Too Much Business.” While other tracks like "Are You Gonna Cry Now" and “C’mon Take on Me keep the album flowing quite nicely, and rocking hard throughout. This album is another terrific addition to your “street metal” collection, and it reaffirms my belief that Hardcore Superstar are second to none when it comes to making killer melodic hard rock music in the 21st century.I absolutely recommend this album to all fans of the band and melodic rock tunage; there are some areas you may think sound like filler, but give it a couple spins and you’ll see it’s all killer baby! “Split Your Lip is still my favorite record from these guys, but “C’mon Take on Me” is definitely a fun and enjoyable hard rock record like they made in the old days.

"Half as good as I'd like..."
Swedish sleaze metal act Hardcore Superstar return with their ninth studio album, C'MON TAKE ON ME. The album continues the catchy hooks and guitar riff anthems the band have been known for on such tracks as, "One More Minute", "Above The Law", and "Won't Take The Blame", but the well starts to dry out from there. The production on the album is top notch, and the band continues to blend a multitude of influences into their sound, but this album just comes across as too much filler. "Are You Gonna Cry Now?" is probably one of the heaviest tracks on album and one of my favorites. The two slow tempo songs on the album,"Stranger Of Mine" & "Long Time No See" continue to showcase Berg's vocals and Zino's fine guitar work. 6 out of 10 stars because half of this album still kicks ass!!!

Enjoyable but rushed
I really hate for this to be my first review of one of their albums, but.. Well it is.I got into this band after seeing their previous album on a top list of albums of 2010 all hard rock albums. I checked that one out and really enjoyed the no nonsense approach. The songs were basic but well written. I'd say I'd actually prefer they lengthen them a bit and give the musicians a chance to shine a little more, Guns N'Roses did it. I then checked out their 3 previous albums, that came out before the 2010 album and loved all of them too. Though they seemed very similar my main interest is the songwriting and they were very solid at it. Their previous work didn't really impress me much. It wasn't terrible but I definitely like the change they made in the mid 2000's. So all that background just so you know where I'm coming from when I got into this album. So for those unfamiliar Hardcore Superstar they're a hard rock band from I believe Sweeden, but I could be wrong. Think of a mix of Motley Crue and Buckcherry's first 2 albums. Their songs are typically in the 3-4 minute range with the occasional prog epic of 5 minutes. This album is no different. The songs are very basic. The problem I have with this album is it feels very unfinished. Many songs start with a random intro that I guess is suppose to be the first verse, and then go straight into the chorus without any flow-the title track and Are you gonna cry, being the 2 best examples. And, it's not that they didn't have decent verse ideas. The verse between the first and second chorus on both songs is fine and i don't mind an intro, but the songs while decent just don't feel like they flow as well as they should. Then you have a song like One More Minute, which has some cool ideas, the verses being more acoustic, but way too short. It has a great chorus, but I wish they'd paid a little more attention to the verses. Then there's Won't take the blame. What they have there is good, nice verses that make me think of Motley Crue's Wildside, and a good chorus, and a decent albeit too short solo and a nice little quiet break that should have led back into a final chorus, instead the song just ends, and then they have a second part which is the last chorus and outro. Why they were split up is beyond me, though with the second part does go on a little longer than needed, still the first part alone just feels incomplete. All that being said I do enjoy the above mentioned songs. I just feel they're unfinished. This album isn't without its stand out moments though. Above the law is an awesome song with a great flow and nice vocals. It's so catchy it's infectious. Too Much Business is another fun little song, and Long Time No see is a decent ballad. Dead Man's Shoes and Because Of You are also decent songs. I don't remember the rest of the album. The production is decent enough and the band still plays with a lot of energy. I'd bet they'd be a lot of fun to see in concert. The choruses are still catchy.Oveall I still feel this is a decent album, however if you're new to the band check out Split Your Lip, Beg For It, Dreaming In A Casket, and their self titled album first. Then feel free to check this one out. They are a good band worthy of your time, and I hope their next album is a little better.

Another Strong Release
I agree with Anthony, this album brings us more of the musically style we have grown to love from Hardcore Superstar. Ever since their self titled album in 2005 (which by the way is epic), these guys have easily gained quite the loyal fan base. HS has found their way into my top 3 along with Crashdiet and Buckcherry. I have to say that I do not feel this release is as strong as Split Your Lip. There were just so many in your face, loud tunes on that cd that stuck in your head for days (minus the slow lazy ballad). I am a huge fan of this release and there just isn't anyway to rate it less than 5 since this band alone carries the "street metal" torch all by themselves. These guys know how to produce singable music, there is no doubt about that. I do feel the mix on this cd is a bit off, the lyrics in some of the tunes seem to be drowned out by instrumentals. I hope to God these guys get to the US and soon. As far as my favs, easily Dead Mans Shoes, Cmon take on me and Above the Law. Please stay around guys, we loyal sleaze rock fans need ya, you've come this far and your only going to get bigger.
