How long can I plug in the block heater?

To pre warm your vehicle, the block heater should be plugged in at least 3-4 hours. There is nothing detrimental about leaving it plugged in overnight or longer.

Can I plug my heater in before installation to test it?

NO. Withtout the engine coolant to dissipate the heat you will burn out the element and it will no longer function. The heater is designed for warm the engine while submersed in the coolant.

Can you use a timer with a block heater?

Yes. You can use a timer with your block heater. However give at least 3-4 hours of continuous heating to properly warm the engine. This timing may vary depending on the ambient conditions.
