This board has a AM4 socket so should work

Is the bios update latest 12.0.6b so will it work with a ryzen 5 5600x start out of the box ie i dont need to update it.

My one wasn’t 5000 series compatible out of the box but it can be easily BIOS flashbacked if you have a usb stick. Lastest bios can be found on the ASUS website.

Can it run a ryzen 9 5900?

yes, the motherboard should run with the CPU. If you do have any issues you may need to do a bios update for the motherboard.
