An excellent little blade for a good price!
This thing is awesome. I just spent a couple hours frankly abusing the blade on various stuff, including all sorts of branches, an old wooden chair, some two-by-fours and even a log—and I'm very impressed, especially for the price. It feels sturdy and cuts very well (very sharp, right out of the box), and the lightweight construction ensures smooth handling. I was concerned at first that the thin blade might not be up to heavier work, but trying it out has dismissed these worries. I bought it to replace an old machete, figuring, "what the hell, let's try something that tickles my geeky, history-buff fancy," and I feel that I made a good decision. This thing is very useful and very, very entertaining to use. The Combat Commander was great for both slicing and stabbing; it held its edge very well, and the point is still pristine (even after stabbing it right into the log a dozen times and hacking the chair to bits). It made short work of branches and cut deeply into the two-by-fours with very little effort. I'll admit that when I hacked up the seat of that old wooden chair, I had boyish fantasies of being a Roman legionary or maybe a Greek hoplite, splintering my opponents shield in battle. Like I said, this thing is lots of fun. The handle is comfortable and sturdy, the rubberized grip is secure; the lanyard hole in the middle is a bit unusual for me, but I'll probably use the smaller hole on the "pommel," which is is actually the exposed (and moderately pointy) end of the tang. The blade comes nice and sharp, with a light coating of oil. The sheath is nice and durable, and the lockdown strap holds the blade in place with impressive snugness. All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase. It promises to be a very handy, and kinda flashy tool for outdoor work and camping. And I have no doubt that it would be great for personal defense, in the unlikely event that such a thing became necessary, considering the damage it did to so much solid wood. It works like a machete and handles like a short sword, a fun, great-looking new toy for an outdoorsy person or anybody with a love a blades. I'd recommend the Combat Commander to anyone, anytime.

Exemplary Go-Bag Weapon
If this is the type blade you're looking for, then this is the crém-de-la-crém of viable options in a working model! I'm not really a personal fan of a double edged design (sword was a gift), but the Combat Commander feels just right in the hand by weight, size and heft. Very nimble little piece for slashing and back-slashing, but especially stabbing there with! In third part comparison to the military grade SOG "Fusion" Tomahawk which compares well to the M48 Tactical Tomahawk, the brother of this very sword, I would say it's essentially built to the very same standards - this sucker is solid! If you ever thought getting one of these new age 'hawks in your hand felt good, wait until you pick-up a Combat Commander! It should also be noted, as everyone wants to know how it compares to the Cold Steel alternative, this sword is a few inches shorter, but given the machete metal used in the CS model, that's really preferential. The thickness seems a little better with minimal noteworthy bend, comparably. Also, the deeper grind is comforting and it comes razor sharp, like "...dang" Any potential misgiving are more akin to oddities than real problems, so to speak. The lanyard hole is certainly in a curious location, but I'd hesitate to call it "awkward" after looping a dogtag chain through it and testing said lanyard-equivalent through middle and ring fingers, it takes all of 5-seconds to re-acclimate to. On the other hand, the fastening strap can be, and I stress, EASILY sliced off by careless un-sheathing, I really should have known better... To those on the fence, the price is good, so just go for it. If it still doesn't float your boat, lash it to a back-up bug-out bag for your buddy's brother ;-). They'll praise you @ Go Time for arming them so w/ such a BA piece of generic kit, seriously! I mean, the Combat Commander can hardly claim the title of "specialty item" but it looks/feels like exactly what you need in the closet for a grid down type scenario for those who never took the time to lean their own preferences, aka the valuable bro who finally says "You were right all along, now give me a weapon!"

Ok, the sword from Gladiator, this is not. A sword, this is not. Really, it's not. It's a machete, and a damn fine one. Don't get me wrong, the roman styling is entirely why I bought this sharp pointy piece of metal, but this blade will not avenge a murdered son and murdered wife, nor overthrow a pretender to the throne. It will however look smashing on a wall, or avenge a burned-out weedwhacker...your choice.

This is a modern interpretation of a gladius short sword! It can cut, but its stabbing power is extreme! If you use it for training (or actual combat), you'll do fine with it! It is lighter (nimbler) than a machete...and so while you could cut light brush with it, there are better + more durable tools for doing that. However, if you use it as a throwing knife , an axe, or try to to stab car doors = you'll likely break it. At the very least, you'll end up damaging the fine stabbing tip. While the steel is fine (1060 High Carbon), the temper is a bit lacking.....but for the price, I'm happy that it tempered at all! Most of the tempering is focused on the cutting part of the blade (near the tip of the blade, where the blade widens). Sheath is good as well. You can mount vertically on your belt via the main loop, or horizontally via the additional loop (also allows you to mount it on a pack strap). No complaints there. Basically, this product offers a very high value for the price!

Weiter so, United Cutlery! :-) Bitte mehr davon...
