I have installed many of these Ideal Security Bars and all have been fine with no issues. Good quality and very easy to install. Also, the locking feature is still easy enough for seniors to operate.

The Ideal Security SK110W Patio Door Security Bar should provide adequate security to any sliding patio door in your home. Made of a very durable metal, you will find that this security bar is not only a physical deterrent, but a visual one, too. Installation is very simple. This bar can be installed with one person, although it is more ideal if you have two, so that one person can hold the bar level while the other person drills holes,and then the screws, into the patio door. Several holes are drilled on each side of the door for installation, as both sides of the bar have several screws that hold it in place. The left side of the bar features a metal hinge that allows the security bar to swivel up and down to lock into place, while the right side of the bar has a metal "hook", which permanently mounts on the sliding door itself, to allow you to secure the bar in place. Once installed, the bar can retract and slide up against the side of the door when not in-use. When you decide to secure the door, you simply slide the bar down, extend it as necessary, and then lock it in place within the metal "hook" on the right side. Do note that this connection can be relatively tight, although this is noticed more when opening/removing the bar than when you secure it...however, since this is a security bar, it is probably better to be difficult to remove than easy! The manufacturer's instructions recommend installing the bar above the sliding door's handle, for maximum efficiency. NOTE: If you have an outer door (where the outer door is the one that slides) the security bar should be installed parallel to (above) the interior track, typically with the patio door handle on the right side. If your door slides the opposite way, with the sliding door's track on the other/outer side, this will not properly secure your sliding door. If you have an inner door, you would want to mount this to the side of the inner door, so that the bar essentially blocks the door from being opened sideways, similar to how it would be if you placed a piece of wood or a broomstick in the track at the bottom. However, instead of this sitting in the track, it is mounted to the doorframe itself. EDIT TO PREVIOUS PARAGRAPH: Originally I had noted that this could only be installed on doors where the outer door is the one that slides. This was a misunderstanding on my part. As you can see from photos three and four for this product on Amazon, you can mount it regardless of which door is the one that slides, but it the bracket to which the bar connects will change location depending on the type of door. Once installed and secured, this security bar should protect against most force attacks, such as when an intruder tries to use their strength to force the door to slide, as well as most bump attacks, where an intruder tries to bump the sliding door up or down so that it falls off of it's track. Overall, this is an inexpensive solution to what could be a costly and dangerous problem. While the bar is not the most attractive, it is definitely a physical and visual deterrent that is very secure in place. 5/5 stars

My husband didn’t believe me when I said we needed one of these so I locked the sliding door and challenged him to open it from the outside. The look on his face was priceless when the door slid open after only a little jiggling and shaking. Needless to say, he was more than happy to invest in one of these after that experience. It was fairly easy to install. We decided to make one minor tweak after reading some reviews that said that the part that allows you to adjust the length of the bar can sometimes come unlocked if enough pressure is put on it, making the bar shorten enough for someone to open the door. He drilled a hole in the bar and put a simple bolt through it (shown in 2nd + 3rd pic), making it permanently locked to the length we need it. This is easy to do if you’re handy, but I wish it wasn’t necessary. The adjustable part does feel a little flimsy without it. If it wasn’t for that, I would definitely give this thing the full 5 stars. We’ve had this on the door for 1.5 years now and it’s still as good as new. I like that the bar is easy to put up and down (no bending down and fiddling with dowels) and I’ve never had any issues with it falling down on it’s own. Highly recommend!

Purchased for an elderly relative for added security. Easy install and does the job better than a piece of wood in the track since they're visually very obvious to see for any would be bad guys.

Very simple to install only 5 screws. Very secure but you do need to check to make sure it's locked in place as you'll see in the video. Once you've tested that it's locked in place you're good. Easy to lock in place and when you will be in and out easy to unlock and very clean look to stow away. Unlike others that sit on the floor and you have to bend down to get it and move out the way and find a place for them when you're going to be in and out and bend back down to sit back in place or others that sit with pressure at whatever level but also when not in use you have to find a place for, this one does the job easily effortlessly and when done sits flush and practically looks like it's part of your door. I really like it.

i bought one of those pet doors that fit in your sliding glass door or in the sliding screen door. the pet door does not seem sturdy at all to serve as a permanent fixture for the sliding glass door so I installed it as a permanent fixture for the sliding screen door. I wanted to be able shut and lock my sliding glass door at night but during the day have my sliding glass door ajar so my dog could use the pet door through the screen door. this adjustable security door allows me to keep the door ajar and securely in place so a passerby would have difficulty forcing the sliding glass door open larger and then also works when my sliding glass door is fully shut for additional security aside from the latch. in the end if they want to get into your house they will. it was easy to install, not overly expensive, and provides some peace of mind and function.

you get what you pay for. The base mount is just thin bent metal and flexes very easily. The end retaining bracket is much thicker and is coated heavily, however, they do not provide dimensions so you may have to figure out some attachment options based on your door. The arms are very light weight, nearly flimsy, however, I could not physically cause it to retract unless I released the stop. So, that is why I am giving it 3 stars. The flimsy base and unknown size of the retaining bracket accound for the two lost stars. Oh, also, the base bracket is not painted, just bare metal, and the paint on the arms scratches very easily. The last lock like this I had was made by the actual door manufacturer. The arm was 1" sq tubing and was cut to length. Also, the mounting bracket had a stop, such that the arm could not drop below horizontal. That was what I was looking for, but could not find anywhere, so this was the solution for now.

Follow the instructions it is easy to fit, you will need a 1/8th inch drill, 3.2mm and an electric drill. Mark your five holes Be aware that the drill bit may drag the drill bit forward in the thin material when you start to drill. Screw the pivot up first (2 holes) followed by the latch bracket with the steel plate behind it (3 screws) job done.
