Pantry staple !!
This is a pantry staple for me !! If you need that umami base for a soup stock, or just make miso soup weekly like me, this is a game changer !! Will add so much umami and flavor. Very little is needed as it can salt your stock quick. Great quality and value for the price.

Improvise for survival..
Excellent hondashi. I'm in a nursing home and have limited cooking access so I have learned to mix my hondashi to hot coffee and cream for a delicious Japanese oriental soup. Simulates miso..

This is delicious!
Soooo delicious! This is full of flavor and if you don’t want the work of making your own dashi this is the answer to a full flavored broth!

VERY Convenient! Tasty, too!
It all started when I bought myself new dishes. I got a new set of Mikasa dishes, which includes these awesome, deep, white porcelain bowls, and I thought to myself, "Those would be great for miso soup!" So I did my research, found and compared several miso soup recipes, and started experimenting. Long story short, making your own dashi soup stock is a PITA if you're not into cooking. So then I started looking for dashi mixes or powders and I found this. Pros: * A little goes a LOOOOONG way! One packet has lasted me over a month. (The box comes with two) The trick is to keep the extra powder in the refrigerator. I use a small mason jar, which I keep right on top of the miso container. * This dashi is, I'm sad to say, more tasty than the dashi I made from scratch. * Using this dashi powder cold not be easier! Cons: * If you are cooking for one, a single packet is a LOT of dashi. Like I said, I keep the extra in a mason jar in the fridge. * ..... mmmm..... I'm thinking... Nope, can't think of any other negatives. If you're looking for a convenient, easy to use, dashi powder, this definitely does the trick!

Needed in EVERY Asian pantry!
There's almost no end to the uses for these granules. From a substitute for Bonito flakes when making miso soup to a flavor packed sprinkle of umami on you're favorite food. As a cook who enjoys making Asian recipes, I consider this as important as salt and pepper, and always keep it just as handy. Hondashi contains monosodium glutamate (MSG). While some people are turned off by MSG, they would usually be very surprised to find that many foods they consume are naturally packed with it! Foods such as mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese and even nuts naturally contain MSG. While a very small group of folks ARE 'msg intolerant', the vast majority of those who refuse to consume it should look into the most recent research. It's not the food equivalent to the 'boogy man' as once thought to be the case. I should also mention that the shelf life of this is very long. You only need to store it in an air-tight container (such as a zip-lock bag) and in a dark cool area. I keep mine in the refrigerator, sealed in a half pint Ball jar.

Ajinomoto - Hon Dashi
I cheated and bought this as a pre-mix seasoning packet. Glad I did. It's sooooo good! Use it as a flavour base for soups, make dipping sauces, pour-on over rice or noodles, just...wow! This is an indispensible go-to for all sorts of wonderful things. Love the flavour, nicely balanced. Oh, and this is a seasoning somewhat parallel to boullion cubes. That's why it's used in so many ways. The other nice thing about this brand is that it is gluten-free...(which is so rare these days it seems), so you can eat this if you are gluten-intolerant as I am. Enjoy!
