Actions: The Actors' Thesaurus

This is a good, and somewhat unusual, resource for writers. I purchased this as a gift for my wife who is a poet. She says it is a great resource and uses it to help think of words for her poems; sometimes an unexpected word can trigger a new line of thought that proves productive.

This book helped me take my acting to the next level by doing beat work and finding the best tactics for my beats. There are so many action verbs in here, it’s an amazing tool for the actors toolbox. This is my second copy as my first one fell apart from taking it everywhere with me. Definitely worth it.

This book was suggested by my current Acting coach on the first day of class. After one week I hadn't gotten it because I know tons of action verbs and I had written my own little booklet about them years ago in college so I had the info & thought I was fine. Then I realized my current coach is a genius and that this book is invaluable to all actors. I ordered it & I use it all the time. Actions plus a dictionary are two books all actors should carry with them every day. You might think that you want to manipulate someone in your scene, but you can't keep using manipulate on every line! If it didn't work the first time you need to try something else like coerce, taunt, trick, tease, jab, lure..... the list goes on. And it's really well organized so you can search by categories or alphabetically. And each word (like Manipulate) has a list of other verbs that might suit your action better. I'm so thrilled this book exists! I've only had it about a month or so & have merely cracked the surface so I know I'll be using it a very long time! Well worth the price no matter what you pay for it!

I purchased this book about 10 years ago when I was in collage for Theater and Performing arts, strudying practical aesthetics. I did not finish the program, but kept the book and stay active in community theater -- And it has really helped me and some cast mates work through some tough characters and stories. I reccomend it to anyone interested in hoaning the craft: It's very useful!

Truly one of the most helpful books for screenwriters,directors and actors alike. It's well worth buying since it's a book you will have to reference over and over again. I also have found that the book is also just oddly helpful in changing the words I use in everyday life to better communicate. Good size book would fit in most medium to large purses easily fits in a backpack.Light weight. Decent font size.

Definitely my favorite book when I want to dig deeper into acting. I cannot recommend this book enough.

This is a must have for any actor, I use this thing all is the time. Absolutely amazing book

This book is so dope. I am now able to read script as well as visualize what the actors are doing exactly according to the examples that the book has provided. This book allows you to take simple script that has no direction and apply any sort of action to a script therefore you no longer have to sit and wonder how are you going to play this out. This book gives you the ability and the words to play any scene... And most importantly every line in the scene with a different action. You can have the same scene as 20 different people & no longer have to play the same scene as everyone else because every sentence in your scene can be a different action which also gives you a head up on a competition because simply... no one else is doing this!
