How does this compare to the OXO one?

My OXO top also broke! Disappointed because it OXO is usually a great product!

Can you load Waterwipes with the original packaging (w/o removing all the wipes to dispenser) if you don't care to use the caddy window?

Yes, but it would be a tight fit. The dispenser works so perfectly when you take them out of the original packaging, I can't imagine not wanting to. The lid stays open when you want, closes tightly, and the wipes stay moist. It's an awesome device. I also like that it allows me a chance to check my Water Wipes for any mold, which I started to worry about after reading some reviews. My husband and I were skeptical at first about the Ubbi wipe dispenser, but we love it now. I'd list it and the Ubbi diaper pail as favorites among our baby gear.

Can you press down on lid to open it?

No, you have to lift the lid to open it. But I like this one better than the other I have that you can press down on lid.

What is the container and plate made out of?

Both are a sturdy plastic. The plate that holds the wipes down on the inside is a good heavy plastic material. This item is durable and well made.
