Picture here , as well as the nedfoss website show 440 stainless steel...but the description here says 7cr13mov steel....please verify type.

It's well made but, there are no markings on blade,so I don't think it's stainless steel.

Can anyone recommend a better shealth?

Did you receive yours yet? If not, hang on till then and make sure it's really needed. I was going to do the same but just stuck with the one they sent when it arrived and saw it was pretty good afterall.

How long is the actual blade portion?

The blade length is 4'' and the overall length is 9''.
