Dr. Dryden is an excellent writer that explains the tools of REBT with great clarity to both budding mental health professionsals and patients alike. If you really want to figure out how to change your negative self-talk and develop greater emotional self-regulation, this is the book for you. Like all self-help books, it is best used as an on-going resource for current and future personal happiness.

Great Skills Book
I'm not a therapist, and you don't have to be to benefit from this book. It's a true "Primer" in the sense that it has all the essentials in a condensed format. If you have to live or work with people who drive you crazy these are essential skills to learn and use. Great stuff. Let the healing begin!

A very useful resource
This provides a decent introduction to the essentials of REBT and also has lots of great tips and techniques on how to fully understand the principles behind it and how to actually use REBT to bring about positive behavioural and emotional changes. It is designed for therapists but I found it very useful to use on my own.It details the basic ABC REBT model. This consists ofA - Adversity. The aspects of a situation that you feel an emotional disturbance overB - Beliefs you have about this adversity.C - Consequences. Emotional, behavioural and cognitive. With REBT most disturbance are said to be caused be irrational beliefs.1. Rigid beliefs.2. Awfulizing beliefs.3. Discomfort intolerance beliefs.4. Depreciation beliefs. You are taught and encouraged to replace them with rational beliefs. This book is particularly good at showing you techniques to use so that you can deepen your conviction in rational beliefs beyond just a shallow intellectual understanding. I found this to be particularly helpful as many self-help books tend to be of little practical use beyond a bit of short-term inspiration. You are provided with step by step guidance and I like the way that it wasn't dogmatic and a questioning approach was recommended. This is quite short and there is very little fluff in it. You do have to work quite hard at it but I have it found that the results makes this a worthwhile investment of your time.
