AXXESS Metra TYTO-01 JBL Amplifier Interface Harness, BLACK

I was pulling my hair out trying to replace the factory head unit in my 2003 Toyota 4Runner that came with the factory JBL audio system (amp and sub in trunk). I was minutes away from just driving my truck off a cliff out of frustration with how many different poorly documented factory wiring options there were for one freaking make/model of car. This was my 4th wiring harness I purchased and the only one that worked. It works perfect. Please note however the product does not match the picture in the description. There are no RCA cables at all, and the black box is a different shape see the attached picture. However, it seems to work fine by hooking up the eight wire leads instead of four RCA's. I will explain what was wrong with the other three harnesses, as I figure people with the same vehicle as me may be running into the same issues and this is the answer. 1st attempt - Metra 70-1761 - This is the standard Toyota 87+ wire harness, however if you have a JBL factory headunit these wires will not fit. This is for non JBL headunits, that only have 4 door speakers. I had to remove 6 panels and take my dash half apart to get to see these factory wires. 2nd attempt - Metra 70-8113 - Fit one of the three factory JBL harnesses, and the new head unit powered on, however no sound. Found out part of my factory JBL system was an amp in the trunk that powers 10 speakers. This harness didn't provide the necessary data signal to the amp to turn it on, so there was no sound. The blue "amp on" wire did not work. 3rd attempt - Metra 70-8117 Amp Bypass Harness - Decided the bypass the amp and center/tweeters all together and just hook up the 4 door speakers with this bypass harness. It did not fit the factory harnesses, and with some extensive googling for wiring guides i found out the specific model factory headunit i had (JBL 56827) has three plugs on it, however none of these 40 some wires work for bypassing. They are all for audio-in expansions and steering control and other stuff. This is about where I lost it. 4th attempt - This - It doesn't look at all like the picture. There are no RCA connections as pictured, and the black box is completely different. My new headunit had RCA connections which made me think this was not going to work. I figured it was worth a shot though so I wired it up to the 8 F/R L/R speaker leads. IT WORKED! It was sounding a bit distorted so I tweaked the attenuator knob and now it sounds incredible and clear. There is about a 5 sec delay from turning my truck on and off till you hear any sound, however it seems to work consistently. There is no steering volume/track control for a JBL 56827, those wires are on a different harness slot that wasn't part of this package. This is the most expensive solution of the four I tried, but it is the only one that actually worked, and the results sound great and functions perfectly. I lost steering wheel volume control, but it sounds like for another $50 you can get a universal steering wheel control adapter. However I'm pretty much over this project, and I'm fine with turning the volume knob by hand. It is so much better having a modern headunit in place of the crappy JBL factory unit, the audio sounds much cleaner and more full despite not doing anything to the factory speakers yet.

So, finally I found a harness that cost more than the cheap options, but I simplly follow the wiring instruction and the radio powers us just as all of the other harnesses did, but now there is actually sound playing out of all 4 speakers of the JBL amplified system with a nice sound. I have tried a few options to put an inexpensive Android radio option into a 2005 Toyota Tundra with the JBL amplified system and no other harness with thise RCA cables attached would have sound playing and it was frustration. I bought this AXXESS TYTO-01 used at just under $70, because I was not sure it would work like the others and might have to return, but it worked and now I am happy. I wasted so much time ordering cheaper ones, waiting for them to come, radio is in and out of the truck each time. Just get this and save yourself time. It is well worth it.

I have an 05 Toyota Sequoia with the JBL system. I wanted to keep my factory system that has an amp but put in an aftermarket head unit. This worked great. A wire pulled out of one of the harnesses but Amazon sent me a replacement the next day. Works great and very easy install. There are only 4 RCA plugs to plug into the back of your aftermarket head unit and then you just connect the power, ground, amp (accessory), and constant power. The harness plug from this harness plugs directly into your factory harness. This makes putting in an aftermarket radio easy. Also, keep in mind that there is a 'volume' knob on this harness interface. I turned mine up about 90% and the volume is great and I can't imagine needing any more. Some reviewers complained of a lower volume, and this could be the reason...they might need to adjust it. You just adjust it with a phillips head screw driver. Also, some complained that they had lower quality. My system sounds MUCH MUCH better than the factory head unit. The bass sounds better and overall sound is better. I actually decided against putting my JL Audio components in b/c the factory JBL system sounds great. This should work on your Sequoias, 4Runners and other Toyota cars with JBL systems. I think it will also work with Lexus. The following does NOT involve the harness above, just a side note: Note for Sequoia owners: If you have the 'blown' or 'farting' front speakers in your JBL system it is an easy fix....all you need is some tacky glue, pull the speakers out and glue around the surrounds....I did it to both of mine and they sound brand new. There are also kits you can buy so you don't have to replace the front speakers. That is a known problem with the Sequoia front speakers and again this is NOT A RESULT OF THE METRA HARNESS.

Update: I spent a couple more hours trying to figure out the issues. 1) I had a blown speaker in the dash that was causing some of the static I was hearing. I replaced that speaker. My hunch is that it got blown while testing as the right front channel was quite a bit louder than the left. 2) I reinstalled the factory unit and took off all the effects that I had applied. (I could be wrong but I think these were saved to the amp) this helped the balance issue where the right side was overpowering. 3) I reinstalled the firmware on the device and adjusted the gains again. 4) connected the black and white wire to ground It sounds far better now than before. Fader still doesn't work as expected, but night and day difference in the sound. I bumped to 4 stars because it does work, maybe I just needed to take the long route? Original review: It works. Just doesn't sound right. There's a clipping in my sound and I can't get it out! It's coming from the right tweeter the most. I did the calibration for the fader @3/4 volume and adjusted the gains. I did everything short of downloading the PC program and programming it. It's doing something weird with the signal.. Honestly I just wish I abandoned the factory amp and didn't bother to spend the money on this. My factory stereo sounds good and another cheep Chinese stereo (that I had to return) that was plug and play sounds far far superior to this adapter. Honestly for the cost and hours that I had to put in to get this to work I'm very disappointed. Wish I could return.

As stated in the other reviews, the product pictured is not the product you will receive. The product I received was the TYTO-01, which was good, because it worked correctly on my 2006 Tundra with JBL (amp is located under passenger side of back seat, not under the stereo in the dash). Attached is a photo of the actual product I received, and it is the correct product for the item number listed. The harness worked perfectly on my particular vehicle. I was, however, disappointed with the quality of this item when I received it. It was a Warehouse Deals item that was listed as "Used-Like New" condition. I should have taken pictures of the harness when I got it because most of the ends of the wires had been stripped and taped with black electrical tape, and several of the ends were soldered together by whoever bought and returned the harness. It was in a regular Ziploc bag, and was rather tragic-appearing in general. I cut the soldered wires a little shorter and made the item work, but it was disconcerting to have something listed as "Used-Like New" that was actually pretty heavily used. This is the second automotive product I've gotten from the Amazon Warehouse that has had significant problems, so I thought I'd just throw this out there as a caution if you are trying to save some money on the Warehouse Deals items of an automotive nature. It's probably worth your time to spend a couple extra dollars and just get a new one because I'm not sure how thoroughly automotive parts are inspected upon return. On the bright side, my stereo is up and running thanks to this product. The whole process only took about a half hour to perform, and the stereo works perfectly.

Ended up buying this through crutchfield when I went with a different radio and currently returning this unopened In original shipping packaging and they won’t do the Amazon returns we all love and know so beware of returning through Amazon otherwise the one I received from crutchfield worked well with a boss head unit

I bought this to use an aftermarket head unit with a 2004 Prius with JBL amplifier and Nav unit, and it worked great! No issues, hooked up on the first try, we didn't even need to adjust the pot. Unfortunately, the two supposed 2004 Prius harnesses we tried first didn't work: if you have a JBL amp, don't bother with the cheap ones, TYTO-01 is the adapter you need to make it work. As others have noted, the description photo on Amazon as of the writing of this review (the slightly rounded box with the RCA plugs) is an older version; the 2017 revision I received in Jan 2018 uses the eight amplified speaker-out wires and attenuates them, and has no RCA jacks. Note: this did NOT include the 68 Ohm resistor necessary to make the nav unit work after the stock head unit is removed, but one is supplied with Metra 99-8213 kit if you also order that; otherwise, you'll need to order one separately. There is a note in the instructions that you MUST connect the blue/white "amplifier on" wire, but no instructions on what to do if your head unit doesn't have an amplifier on signal: we spliced the blue/white (amp on) wire to the spare red (ignition-switched +12V) wire which turns the amp on whenever the car is on, which seems to work fine with this model year Prius (no odd noises or anything when the amp is on but head unit is off).
