I have a brackish tank for crabs and have to maintain a range of salinity. The pet store did not tell me fiddler crabs cannot live in freshwater and though I have no experience with this type of aquarium and I had to learn fast. This meter has worked great for me. I followed all the instructions for preparing it including buying a jug of distilled water to do the initial cleaning.Before I trusted the results to add marine salt to the tank I asked my well service to test it against their equipment and it seemed very much in sync with their tester. I have been adding the salt very gradually (over weeks) to the tank and testing the water after each addition. The results I'm getting show gradually increasing salinity and SG and the crabs are thriving.I understand that crabs are more forgiving of tank conditions and brackish water can vary greatly so I can't vouch for trusting this on a saltwater tank but it has worked for my purposes.

Good product

No certificate of calibration from factory and they don’t send you the solution to calibrate it when it’s new. Temp is about 4 degrees off and the salinity is is off by 2 points. Kinda important with a salt water tank. Not really sure what to do with it. I would change the review if they made good and sent me the solution

I purchased this for use in our pool that has a salt water generator. Unfortunately, I returned it because I thought it was inaccurate. I added salt to the pool based upon the measurements done at Leslie's Pool Supply. Based upon these measurements, I added salt to arrive at the desired level of 3500ppm, and after doing so, their measurement was 3647ppm. I then bought this tester so I could keep track of the salt level, and it showed a salt level of 5500ppm. To confirm who was right, I went to another pool store, and was told my level was 4500. I thus assumed this tester was inaccurate and returned it. However, I had a nagging thought that the pool stores might not be correct either, so I bought a Taylor sodium chloride test kit, and it measured 5600! Thus, this tester was the most accurate, and the pool store testing was wildly inaccurate, and has created a huge problem: I now have to dump almost 20,000 gal. from my pool to get to the proper level! The lesson here is DO NOT trust pool store measurements for anything, and especially salt levels!!! Use this tester instead. The only problem with the tester is that it might need occasional calibration which requires specific solutions be purchased to accomplish this. It's misleading that this is not mentioned in the product description. However, I now know it was accurate out of the box, and don't know how often or if calibration might need to eventually be done. I've posted this detailed description to help others with this purchase, and to atone for my error in returning a device that I said was inaccurate which in fact works fine! I downrated to 4 stars only because the possible need for calibration was not mentioned.

It’s rather complicated to use and understand the directions. That could just be me trying to figure it out. We are working on a brackish tank to have puffer fish. We use the salinity setting. You can use C or F for temp… I did figure out how to change that!😊 it has more functions and measurements I need to learn about.

Well… looks like Amazon will allow anything to fly. Clearly false advertisement since if claims to be a pH meter yet doesn’t have the feature available. Now once again I have to go print a label and return said product, then wait for my money to be refunded. Am I surprised, not one bit. Also, the product you can clearly see it’s cheaply made in a Chinese sweatshop. I’d be very afraid to trust it being water resistant let alone waterproof.
