The Photoshop Darkroom 2: Creative Digital Transformations

This book is very informative. An excellent resource for learning Photoshop darkroom techniques.

I like Harold’s books. They are always well done and informative - very useful books. This is an older book so it is a bit dated. I bought it because I thought it was recently published. My mistake.

Very similar to the 1st volume.Some of the favorite techniques that are being reitarated in this volume are : multiple Raw processing to increase dynamic range , Lab color manipulation for creative color effects, montages using layers and masks. Lab color manipulation is probably more exotic thing , the other techniques are pretty staighforward.There is a brief chapter on portrait re-touching. Just the basics but to the point.Overall, the authors ( or maybe it is just me ) have the most fun with surrealism in their photos which they achieve through montages and color manipulation using neat and elegant workflow. This workflow is not all encompassing Photoshop guide but you can learn a tip or two by following it closely.Higly recommend if you want to take basic manipulation in Photoshop to the next level and don't have the 1st volume.

Great book for experienced photographer. You need to get the first edition also. He references techniques used in the first edition that are not explained in the second edition

My rating is for the Kindle version.I purchased the Kindle edition so I could start diving into the info I wanted immediately. However, that was a bad decision. There are a lot of photos and diagrams in this book which are difficult to see in the kindle version even when magnified. The ebook conversion this went through is very poor. I am very disappointed with my purchase and wish I had gone with the print edition. Don't make the same mistake as me.Update: As I've been reading this book on my tablet and PC I can say it offers a wealth of information. Enough that I have purchased the paperback edition and will take the $30+ hit on this worthless kindle edition. Harold Davis has a number of images to show camera settings and photoshop steps that need to be taken that are simply unreadable due to very low resolution. There are also numerous typos from the text to ebook conversion. Very sloppy. Amazon should be ashamed for selling an unreadable book with such a hearty price tag.

Very interesting book and creative methods with PS. He talks you through the evolution and steps of several photographs and shows you how they look each step of the way.

Great step by step explanations of great pictures

I am a follower of Harold Davis - his beautifully produced books always stimulate the imagination and get the ideas flowing.The Photoshop Darkroom series is NOT for people wanting to learn Photoshop - there are plenty of books out there that will do that.Both volumes 1 and now 2 are for people that are really into the art of Photography and want to use Photoshop to enhance their images - as Harold says 'transform' them into images that could never have been captured directly by the camera.The layout of this book follows that used in book 1 - it is easy to follow even when it entails skipping several pages to continue the transformation. The images used to illustrate techniques are superb and some cn be downloaded should the reader wish to try their own hand on the book's images.If this is the kind of photography that grabs you then this book will get you hooked!

Packed full of creative ideas and written in an easy to understand way makes this book an ideal purchase for anyone (like me) who's not that good with Photoshop
