Aluminum Dutch Oven 12"

It's aluminum. So ya, it's light in comparison to cast iron. It's pretty solid cast construction. It's my main cooking set for camping. Cook stuff in the pot, use the lid as a tortilla warmer. When everything gets burnt on, it's aluminum of course it will, I just throw it in the fire and let the heat burn the rest off until it's ash. I abuse this thing and it keeps up with me. I can't stand the flimsy camp cookware everyone else uses. I break them after a couple of uses. This thing can withstand me and my weeks at a time of canoeing.

I love this dutch oven. This is actually my second one. I used both last night to cook using charcoal and they work perfect. I have read some reviews that say these ovens are more likely to have hot spots, but I have not experienced that. They cook just as well as any cast iron oven I have used in the past. I love how light they are and the fact that you can wash them. Being aluminum, you won't have to worry about rust. No hesitation recommending this oven.

As my wife and I were looking for lighter options for our weekly dutch oven cooking, I decided to keep the 12" oven. The description was for a 10" hard anodized dutch oven. Still it cooks well, holds the heat pretty well (not quite as long as a cast iron, but pretty close) and cleanup is way easier. It does not seem to be as porous a material as the cast iron, so the cure will likely take longer to build up.

Make sure have flat metal tray to set it on & something to put the coals on.

I love this little dutch oven. It's lightweight, great size for canoe trips, and I've made some fantastic meals in it. The only bit that concerns me is that it's made of aluminum - I'm constantly aware that the melting point is low-ish. I just make sure to put coals on it and not directly in the fire.

I've owned a few cast iron black pots for years, and I researched this particular item off and on during that time. I finally decided to buy this in order to lessen the burden of handling heavy equipment during some outings. What I really wanted to buy but haven't seen the offer for a while (I should've jumped on it back then) was the combo of the 12" and nested 10" set for just a few bucks more than what I paid for this one. It was a GSI item as well. Nevertheless, I found this item to be exactly what I expected. The price isn't bad either considering the impact of inflation over the years when I hesitated. Needless to say, Amazon's free shipping always adds value to an online purchase. The delivery was timely and the product was in great condition. (Sometimes with careless handling, cast metal pots get damaged and have to be returned). I cooked in it a couple of times already and all went well. Of course, the user has to keep in mind about the cooking charactistics of a cast aluminum pot versus a cast iron pot in order to accommodate a good experience.

have been cooking with dutch ovens for years with boy scouts both cast and aluminum but by far we love this one the best even cooking and easy clean-up.
