Flamenco and tango as one
If you are familiar with El Cigala and love flamenco than you will love this cd/dvd combo. The musical performance is subtle but not subdued,a quiet storm that is soft yet fiery. The acoustic instruments, guitar, bass, piano, violinchelo ,violin and the absolute essence of the tango, the bandoneon crerate an underlying melodic counterpoint to El Cigalas remarkable flamenco voice. The marriage of these two genres, flamenco and tango, one Spanish , one Argentinian sounds like it was meant to be from the beginning; Astor Piazzolla Astor Piazzolla - A Memoir (Hardcover) must be smiling somewhere in heaven hearing this hybrid beautiful new tango. The songs are all marvelous, even equisite if you will. Some of mY favorites are "Las Cuarenta" with it's traditional tango flavor and the amazing tell-a-tale voice of Cigala chiming in, the nostalgic, Carlos Gardel romantic tune , "El Dia Que Me Quieras," is an awesome rendering of a song made popular by many Latin American artists, notably and recently by Luis Miguel Mis Boleros Favoritos . It is hard to improve on a great song but this just may have; if nothing else it is a unique version and still romantic, As stated earlier the songs and performance is for the ages, it is beautiful to see and listen two. The crowds quite then busting into applause is testament to the fact that they were watching someting incredible. the set closes with on of the most Spanish of Spanish songs, " Dos Gardenias," that puntuates the set with an exclamation as it goes rhythmically into a salsa beat that has the crowd going wild! The stage erupts in harmony with the crowds estatic reception; it is a perfect ending to a spectacular, magical night. There are several extras on the dvd, including a music video of "En esta tarde gris," complete with hot tango dancing. The complete package is very well done. The two set disc is a steal, one for your home and road on CD and the other to view on your home entertainment center. So sit back and enjoy a superb concert in the comfort of your home with friends and imagine you are there in El Teatro Gran Rex in Spain and witnessing this historical performance with the wedding of tango and flamenco. Highly recommended for tango, flamenco, jazz and Latin music fans.

El Cigala does Tango
I was not totally satisfied with the selection of songs in this CD, but I bought it anyway because like the way El Cigala provides deep emotion to the poetry in tango lyrics and a different tempo to its music. Some arrangements could have been better and the inclusion of Youkali made no sense to me.Including Alfonsina y el Mar in this selection is a very forgivable "mistake" (it is not a tango, vals, or milonga), but such beautiful song deserves to be in any anthology of Argentinean music, whether tango or folklore. All in all, great CD.

A must have if you are a Diego El Cigala fan.
This is a most excellent recording of Diego El Cigala's American Tour which is very close to the performance at The Old Rex theatro in Buenos Aires. A combination of flamenco and jazz performed by the incredible Cigala, and backed up by excellent musicians, each of whom are worthy of their own albums.

always amazing
the timeless voice of Diego el Cigala, for me one of the foremost flamenco cantaors of our time, in this album he travels to Argentina and sings classic taango tunes, the flamenco voice combined with tango sounds divine, this artist does not cease to surprise me, brilliant.

Melancholic and romantic! Put's you in a nice mood.
With all the junk that's heard in the Latin community, this one brings back the years of listening to beauty and feeling in a song. Makes you want to fall in love all over again with the shlub you've been loving for 32 years! :-)
