Faringdon 16cm Cake Tester

As much as I think cake testers should be thin, this one is a little too thin and may not always indicate the correct result when pulled out of the cake. It was also flimsy, and impossible to use in oven gloves.Cakes are generally cooked when they are pulling away from the sides, and a tester inserted into the middle comes out clean. This depends on what ingredients you are using- a chocolate chip may provided a false result. Any mixture on the tester then the cake is not cooked through and should be returned to the oven for ten minute intervals.Though they can be detemental to the result, I'd recommend buying a pack of skewers and putting one aside for baking purposes only, they're thicker, easier to hold and have the ability to test the bottom of fairly deep cakes.

Whilst this is a fairly flimsy item, I much prefer it to testing a cake with a skewer. This device leaves only a tiny, barely noticeable mark on the surface of the cake. It is a good length too. I have seen some of the reviews saying the tester was ineffective. I think it would be fair to say that there are going to be some recipes where the results will probably be less reliable, largely dependent on the ingredients in the cake, but for the most part this does the job.

I used this very recently and was amazed that for the first ,II did not have great big holes in my cake!Very quickly dispatched and recieved. would recommend.

Works perfectly for testing cakes and unlike a skewer doesn't leave large test holes in top of cake. Nice and long for deeper cakes Whickham is great if like me you make cakes in breadmaker machine.
