This has been my first time using 5htp for sleep and its had a noticable effect. Sleep onset is faster and I seem to spend more time in REM since I'm having much more vivid and memorable dreams. I'll keep taking these for a while and then ween off to see if i notice any decline in sleep quality coming off them. I have been taking this with a GABA supplement so I cant say for sure whether the sleep quality increase is from this, the gaba, or a synergistic effect. Research studies point to it being a combined effect though. One thing to note though is i did get some stomach upset from them. Nothing severe, but definitely noticable from about 30 to 90 minutes after taking a full capsule when i first got them. Easy solution was to pop open the capsule and dump out about 1/4 of the powder, then close it and take the capsule. I did this for about 2 weeks and then stepped up to the full capsule. By that point my system had gotten used to it and I no longer had any stomach upset.

I have used different 5 HTP products but I keep coming back to this one. If you are new, try starting with the 100 mg strength and take it at bedtime to give your brain time to get used to it. If you feel anxious or depressed during the day, take another 100 mg. If you have any reaction it will be mild upset stomach. It will pass in 30 min. You might take it with food to be sure that your stomach can handle it. The goal is to, over time, allow it to build up in your system. I struggled with depression for years. I tried several different kinds of Rx drugs ALL with side effects. THIS is the best all natural product that I have ever used. I have used it now for over 10 years and I will not be without it. Go slow, allow it to build up but KEEP taking it over time. Just because you feel better, KEEP TAKING IT.

I have been taking NOW 5-htp for about two years now, and I can say that they have made a positive difference in my mood and sleep, but don't see any changes to my appetite. I take one pill at night right before bed. The directions recommend taking on an empty stomach, but I don't notice any difference taking the pill after I've eaten. I've tried the NOW 100 mg vs this NOW 200 mg and don't notice any difference. Since the price was quite similar, I decided to take this dosage going forward.
