The Qur'an: With Annotated Interpretation in Modern English

I have read a number of translations and commentaries of the Quran over the years from the Pickthall whose translation while good is a little dated to Yusuf Ali whose translation and commentary has over the years been a near endless victim of repeated chopping and changing to suite the purposes more of modern ideology and political groups than providing an accurate interpretation of the Quran. So much so that its now become pointless even bothering to read a modern copy of Yusuf Ali's interpretation of the Quran. Then we have a number of modern versions. Muhammad Assad wrote one but his views are tainted by the modernist Muhammad Abdu. Then we have a few modern translations such as those of Qurtabi and Suyuti and the translation of Aisha Bewley which is excellent as its written in a modern English style that makes it very easy to read. There is however, no real in depth commentary and interpretation for the modern English speaker. This is where Ali Unal has stepped in. First the language used is first class. Its modern and easy on the eye. It is formal but not over the top so its very easy to read as the passages of the Quran flow. The commentary is excellent and really helps the reader understand each chapter he or she is reading. I really do think the translator has done an excellent service to the English speaking world with this translation and I do believe that this book should be more widely distributed. Highly recommended.

The book has the arabic and English text together which is really what I needed

Having read a dozen translations of the Holy Koran in English and Urdu i have found Ali Unal's translation as the most comprehensive so far and a refreshing addition. It is almost like a contemporary version of a similar effort by Abul Ala Maududi 50 years ago. The annotations and appendices add to the understanding of the Koran. A must read for Muslims and other religions alike.

This is the best modern day attempt of the translation of the holy Qur'an. The use of Arabic and English is first class. The history of when the chapters were revealed helps you understand and love the Qur'an more. This book cannot be put down. The actual quality of the paper is very good so rest assured you know you are getting top quality pages. Also book has an in-built green ribbon bookmark.

Ali unal provides an in-depth analysis of the Quran

As a non Muslim I have been looking for some time for a good English copy of the Qur'an. Have now found it. This is a super book. The translation is modern without being disrespectful. The interpretation clear and helpful. The paper is strong and feels quality. The essays - especially on the historical background I found just superb. Overall this is a outstanding publication which has helped so much in my understanding and respect for Islam. Highly recommended

A lovely book to read and it gives you an insight into the way of life of people who are Muslim. It also makes you aware that the fundamentalist people such as Issis and. Jihadist are not part of the Musllim world

I just got the book. The cover looks exactly like shown. Blue book with golden ornaments, looks great. People say that this translation is awesome, I believe it. But there are two very important things to know before buying! These two things lost my two stars and so I left 3/5. First: this is NOT HARDCOVER! This is flexibound! And quite thick flexibound. Second: pages are so thin, oh my god, so thin, you can see letters on the other side of the page. I'm even affraid to turn the pahe not tearing it apart, very disapointet in that.

This is by far one of the most easiest English translation I have come across to-date. I have many ( >18) of different translators and Tafassirs including M.Haleem, Yusuf Ali, Ib-Khatir, Muhsin, Asad, Yaha Emericket al. But this translation includes the commentaries which are great for understanding the context of the Suras/Ayats. In some cases, the translation includes the assumed words than letting the reader think about what it could mean. That approach is probably appropriate for new readers but it may trouble the purists. Some of the commentaries include examples of modern times and does not always include any related Hadiths that could be available as Br. Yayha Emerick includes. Nevertheless, this is a great collection for those who study Quran as well for those who are reading it for the first time.
