MAHLEKL 763D Fuel Filter

Works as expected. The OEM brand (UFI) has O-rings that are thicker than this one which may make you think twice about installing this one, but the diameter of the inlet is just a tad bigger (where the o-ring sits) than OEM to make up for the difference. You also need hose clamps to replace the OEM crimp-style ones.

3 star due to the following issues, Mahle is Oem quality so no issues there.I ordered this filter for my 2011 335D and was unaware that the 2011 model changed the oem filter part way through the year.KL 763 D and KL 579 D are both for the 2011 335D just depends when that year the 335D was produced.Mine was built in 03/11 and uses the KL 579 D.I would imagine that KL 579 D was used in the first half of the year and the KL 763 D was used during the second half.... not sure when they changed exactly.

Was just about to order again another one and saw the review. I have a 2011 335D and this filter fits just fine for on my car.

2011 335D - Beside Amazon a number of parts sellers give this filter as the correct replacement part. Doing some research BMW changed filter styles sometime in 2011 - no one can answer what VIN or manufacture Month.My car is 2011 model manufactured in July of 2010 and takes the old style filter.The difference, is as another reviewer pointed out, is the back side of the filter is either male or female.There are TWO different filters that work in 2011 - KL 579D - the original style with female end on the filter.This Filter KL 763D which has male fitting on both ends.If anyone can post exactly when BMW changed filter styles if would be a great help for others looking to change filters.

I gave this product 1 star, not for the quality, because it did not fit my vehicle as advertised. The inlet to the filter has a male end. When I went to install the filter, the old filter had a female end for the inlet. Needless to say, the time and effort was wasted. To be clear, this did not fit my 2011 BMW 335D as the Amazon.com website said that it would.

Be careful, it claims to fit the 335D. The ends were not the same for mine.

I did some research and found that this fuel filter is considered good for a "lifetime". What that means it not entirely clear as the manufacture doesn't provide any maintenance schedule. The marketing department found it's way into the Enigeering's team building and told them we need to sell more cars and the biggest problem is the perception that BMWs require lots of expensive maintenance. How can you tell a BMW to someone who barely affords the monthly payments if they also need to pay thousands in maintenance costs? So off the engineers went to work trying to remove as many items from the scheduled maintenance list as possible without ruining the car.What you end up with is many items used to be replaced at regular intervals simply left on the car until something breaks. A simple such as a plugged fuel filter can prevent your car from starting, however, when that happens, you will be stuck with the tow bill and a few hundred if not thousands in repair bills. I didn't need to replace my filter as the car is still very new, however, when I did, I noticed it had slightly more power and response. The car will likely reduce the amount of fuel being added at low loads, however, at full load, the injection timing is preprogrammed in a look up table. The amount of fuel is limited by the injectors and pump. If there is any restriction in the system, you will get less performance or delayed responsiveness.
