I waited 3 years to buy this can, and I couldn't be more happy with it. It's beautiful and functional. I FINALLY have a trash bin is not a point of shame in my kitchen! It's pretty much a work of art, only better because it serves a purpose! The soft-close lid gives you enough time to drop in whatever refuse you need to, without having to keep your foot on the step. The butterfly lid closes flush with the can, leaving no leverage for dogs to be able to nose into the can—a problem we've had with every other trash can. No more having to remember to orient the can in a certain direction before leaving home in order to keep the dogs out. The interior plastic can lifts out easily and smoothly. The matching can liners fit the plastic can liner perfectly. As with any product, how satisfied you will be with the product depends on what you were looking for. One 1-star reviewer complained that this can doesn't contain odors, but nothing in the product description makes any claim that the can WOULD contain odors. That said, it does so far better than my old trash can did. If you regularly have stinky trash that you know will be sitting around for a few days before you remove it, you should exercise the same caution as you would with any other large can, and not put stinky stuff into it until you're ready to take out the trash. OR, buy a smaller can that forces you to take out the trash more frequently—this can comes in several sizes and this one is the largest-capacity model. Simple common sense. I don't clean out leftovers from my fridge until the trash is ready to go out anyway. This product is the answer to everything I hate about dealing with my trash, and could only be improved upon if it took out the trash itself. It comes with a 10 year warranty, and I'm sure I will have this can for longer than that—or a replacement if this one fails. I saved up for this to be able to afford the luxury, and it is worth ever penny. You won't be sorry you made this purchase. CUSTOMER SERVICE NOTE: the customer service for this vendor was incredible. I ordered my can, and it arrived slightly dented, even though the packaging was completely in tact. I groaned and was so disappointed, thinking that the return process was going to be such a pain in the butt. I even considered just living with the dent, except it was on the side that would not be facing a wall, and I paid so much for it I really felt I should have a new can in perfect condition. When I got on to Amazon and initiated the return/exchange process it was COMPLETELY PAINLESS! I stated what was wrong. I had the option of exchanging or returning with options to have a driver bring a label to my house and pick up the return! (Or to drop off someplace if I preferred.) And I didn't have to wait for my returned item to arrive before they sent a new one. I received my replacement can the next DAY! And the driver that dropped it off picked up my return and hauled it away. For an exchange, it was the most painless and convenient exchange I've ever had to deal with.

This trash can was perfect for our needs and probably for anyones. It opens wide enough so you should not spill on the sides and closes quietly after you release your foot from the pedal. If you take the time to read the directions located on the underside of the lid, it will tell you how to keep the lid open while you are changing the trash bag. There are two little hook-like thinges at the back that actually work to do that! The directions also tell you that while the lids are open, you can lift the trash can angling it toward the front and it will catch and stay up a little so it makes it super easy to change bags. I have been using Simplehuman trash bags (I bought a whole box), but I may try the 13 gallon Costco bags when I run out. I love the sturdyness and clean look of this trash can which works perfect for our needs. In the video, you can see where I have added stick-on handles and a small rug under it to help pull it out. We tried a larger rug and thought there was a problem with the way the can was working, but it was because the rug cannot be directly under the pedal.

Our 35lb cardigan welsh corgi is an expert scrounger when it comes to kitchen garbage. So good at it that he needed emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction after eating corn cobs out of our last trash can. But not with this can. He can't tip it, turn it over or open it. 30lb kitchen trash bags fit it too. Easy to empty & I love that you never have to touch the lid to open it. Well worth the cost.

This trash can came today. We have limited space so I am thrilled that this slender can fits in the space perfectly. But, aside from its functionality it was difficult not to "play" with it after it got here. Even my husband had fun with it. You simply step on it, which ok other trash cans have; then the two sides open up like a silver mouth... swelling up my garbage in a fun sense. It then gently ...slowly... silently closes! Never thought I would have "fun" with a trash can. LOL. Oh, yes, the inside bin comes out for cleaning, putting in the bags, etc. Easy. But seriously, it is expensive but I have other SimpleHuman things (great great paper towel holder)... so thought we would stretch our budget and try this one. It is a keeper for sure! Pretty, functional, quiet, space saving.... that's it. A great item! 4/22/14 Additional info: We have now been using this wonderful trash can for awhile now. It is still a wonder to use ! Yep it is fun... my husband now loves to go put things in the trash to watch is sloooooowly close ! But also, it has some vents not he bottom which means when we take out the inner bin to put in a new trash bag etc. it doesn't get stuck due to pressure, the bin comes out easily, take out the plastic bag and then put in the new bag. We are using tall kitchen bags now, not the ones that came with the can. we have had NO problems at all using tall kitchen bags. They fit fine. So this bin is about the most perfect trash can you can find. (We also use the Simplehuman paper towel holder which is also perfection). so we have nothing but good words for this company. And for someone who asked about toddlers fingers getting stuck in the bin or something, I would say don't worry. The split lid closes so softly and slow that this would not be a concern I don't think. We love it.

I love this can! We've had it 18 months and it has stood up to 4 kids and 2 German Shepherds. I originally purchased this trash can 01 March 2018 based on ratings and reviews stating it held up to large dogs. The body is surprisingly slim yet holds the maximum amount of trash that will fit in a 13 gallon trash bag. (Our tribe generates quite a bit!) It is very sturdy without inconveniently heavy to move and clean behind - definitely tip proof, which is quite the engineering feat. It does get smudgy pretty quickly but they do come off easily and it IS stainless steel so that's expected. Today I was pretty bummed to come home and find the lid stuck in an open position and remnants of a trash feast scattered across the living room. One of my dogs figured out how to step on the pedal and must have somehow broken the mechanism because the lid was stuck in a fully open position. Assuming it had met its end at the paws of a German Shepherd, I got on Amazon to find a different can. When looking at the specs to make sure I got one with the same capacity, I noticed the 10 year guarantee. Even though we'd put it through some rough use, I thought I'd give it a shot so I called Simplehuman. For starters, the first option menu included reaching an operator. You never get that anymore without pressing 0 like a monkey on crack hoping it will eventually go through. An operator answered after two rings, was incredibly pleasant and immediately put me through to the correct department. Yes, a live operator and the CORRECT department on the first try. I was already beyond impressed. The customer service representative was friendly and very helpful. Turns out the can has a locking option to hold the doors open and somehow my dog managed to slide the bar into the lock position. He explained how to unlock it and the lid is still fully functioning. This trash can is impressive in many ways, has lived up to all it's claims and the company provides a level of customer service that is hard to find these days. In sum - buy it! You won't regret it.

My favorite trash can! Love the butterfly opening, slim enough to fit at the end of a counter and feel like it’s not impeding your space. Be careful using on hardwood floors as the mechanism for the foot lever can scratch if not level. I have purchased 3 of these in the past 10 years not because anything was wrong but because I moved and left it for the next person. The previous 2 are still in use.

They say you do get what you paid for and I did a lot of research before buying this. It is a pricey item. But due to my space limitations i needed something that would fit snug and function properly over time. This worked. The quality is very very good. No issues with movement of the lids and pedal. Everything came intact, dagame free and functional, as i hoped. It's been a while since i got this and to be truthful... i still do not regret the investment. A step up would be a version matching this that had motion detection and opened the lids automatically. Maybe they have that now... i don't know but as it is ... i think it's perfect enough just the same. Pros: I find cleaning it to be easy. Even with sticky and greasy spills on the external parts. It is deep so it holds a lot of garbage. Varied items of varied sizes fit surprisingly easily ( multiple large juice bottles for example). I see no rust on it, despite the fact that it's placed next to my kitchen sink and gets slashed on, occasionally. Cons: Though it is worth it, It is still pretty expensive. Still... i would buy another.

I've been a huge fan of Simple Human products for years. They are best known for their trash cans, but they make so many great household items that we use in our home. Shower caddies, soap dispensers, makeup mirrors, and even toilet plungers! All fantastic. Their products tend to cost a bit more, but they're always high quality and extremely durable. This butterfly trash can is no exception. I decided to purchase this particular trash can because we have such limited space in our kitchen. We needed something narrow with a lid, but the lid had to also be compact. Most trash cans with hinged lids have the hinge part sticking out of the back. Not only do those hinges take up space, it creates a gap that prevents the trash can from sitting perfectly flush against a wall. Given our very narrow and restrictive space, I knew finding a trash can that would fit could prove difficult. I also knew I may not have the luxury of choosing a specific brand, because the dimensions were more important. In the end this butterfly trash can seemed to be the only one that would work. However, the price is WAY higher than I have ever paid for a receptacle that holds my garbage. Even now I feel sick just thinking about what I paid for it. But at least it works and fits where I needed it to go. It wasn't just that this trash can fit the space, it is also the butterfly lid design that makes it even more perfectly suited for tight and narrow spaces. We have a couple of the smaller butterfly trash cans in our bathrooms, which I love, and it really is a genius design. Because the lid will never exceed the dimensions of the trash can itself, except for the height obviously. So it's not just a cool-looking gimmick; it actually serves a useful purpose, especially if you're working with limited space. I also really appreciate the removable insert that holds the trash. This makes it really easy to change the bags, once again, when you have limited space or access to maneuver the entire receptacle without it being a giant pain in the you-know-what. So yeah, it's a great trash can. I'm not sure that any trash can justifies this kind of price, but it certainly does a good job of holding my garbage. Having said that, I paid a 5-star price for a 4-star trash can (in my opinion). It's ALMOST perfect, but not quite. I have two relatively minor complaints about it. First, I wish it was a standard 13 gallon size like our old trash can. Knowing that we would fill a 13 gallon in one week, I was initially concerned that we'd have to replace the bags more often. Luckily that turned out not to be the case, but only BARELY. Seriously, it's enough for 7 days for the two of us, but it would not make it to 8 days. But there is still a bit of room in the trash bag once removed to fit in some extra items before tossing it out should it be necessary. My second complaint, again relatively minor, has to do with the coolest feature: the butterfly lid. Our previous trash can, also by Simple Human and with a hinged lid, had the option to keep the lid open if you wanted. Having that option was useful for a couple of reasons. First, it prevents garbage from touching the lid once it starts to get pretty full. I use this brand's liners which aren't cheap, so I want to make sure those bags are FULL. The second reason having the lid stay open is it allows you to air it out. Closed lids are great for keeping trash concealed and containing smells, but those smells hit you in the face the second that lid opens. And quite often those smells linger inside the can even after removing the trash. So I clean it often, and like to have the lid stay open after I clean it so that everything's dry and fresh again. But the only way to keep the lid open on this is to press the foot pedal. This means I need to find some object that's heavy enough to sit on the pedal, because obviously I'm not going to stand on it all day. Other than those two things, and the price, it's a great trash can.

Love all the thought that went into its many details. Only drawback is that it feels 1-2 inches too narrow. The design concept is for it to fit into tight spaces, which is appreciated, however compared to my previous wider container, the width seems to affect the weight of the trash, which sometimes accumulates midway and doesn't quite sink to the bottom. This gives the impression the bag is full when it isn't. Requires the reflex of jamming the trash down at the start so that the weight at the bottom holds the bag wide open. If this could be countered in future design adjustment, then 5 stars. Nevertheless, great quality product.

Lassé de la faible longévité de mes précédentes poubelles, j'ai décidé d'investir dans cette poubelle SimpleHuman. Sa contenance de 45 litres est parfaite pour une famille. J'adore l'ouverture papillon qui permet de conserver la stabilité de la poubelle lors de l'ouverture contrairement à la plupart des autres poubelles du marché. Elle se nettoie facilement et les sacs fournis sont robustes et ajustés parfaitement à la taille de cette dernière.

It’s a very good-quality bin; just be aware that the 45L size is quite big and a bit heavy too.

I needed a replacement bin as my old simple human bin was tired, it is a bit pricey but so worth it, I need a slim style bin due to lack of space in my kitchen, I bought the one with the single compartment 45l this holds a great amount The lid open smoothly and I love how it splits in middle. The bin bags supplied fit just right and very strong so I will buy these when required.. Wish I purchased one sooner…
