Cedar Dove Nesting Box

As soon as the nesting box was placed the mourning doves moved in collecting nesting materials to welcome their eggs. The doves previously made a nest that failed and left eggs abandoned. It was time to intervene and this well made nesting box worked perfectly. The construction is simple and is good design for what the birds need.

This truly is lovely.....---- AND while I am not 'a bird-biologist-PhD gal'....THIS birdhouse IS on the smaller size (much smaller than your mind might even comprehend).And YES, most all "'similar nesting boxes"' will be of the same size.You won't however find something of cedar, let alone of this thickness ---at this price!!!!I am trusting in the 'designer' on this one :))Tree-trimming caused numerous mourning dove nests to become disrupted.The babies from the entire 4-sides of my block ended up in my little 'heaven' of life'. :))Yes...... I got this to try & help them out with a safe place to sleep away from the owls & hawks in my backyard.While this IS on the smaller size, hopefully this will attract some of the displaced babies on my block as a secure place to 'bed down' thru the night.I have watched them while waiting for this, become "a lost little family of nothing-less-than-family-togetherness".Fingers are crossed for all to be reunited with mom&dad. If not, some are older and they all cozy up together everynite (in places that are just tooooo out in the open for 'beginners in life'. Holding my breath. Tis hard to worry so much.....arrrgh!Beyond that, this puppy RE Mom&Dad's Nesting Habits ----- this just might allow for less effort on mom&dad's part in a protective nesting creation.......... it might also offer a bit more protection from a predator coming in from the front.(M.Doves do prefer open-front nest-building homes)All in all -----I'm hoping for the best but have no expectations.Twas a horrible moment to experience knowing of all the babies in our apt bkyard eucalyptus trees. It was utterly heartbreaking to watch. AND yes, it does happen, I get it :(....But/Yet/So here I am trying to help those whom I can :)Tis a fabulous nesting box!!GO FOR IT if you are considering! It was shipped ready to install. Looks good and went up easily. Last Spring a Dove couple kept trying to build a nest on top of my porch light which fell off. Because I had nothing else I tacked a cardboard shoe box up which they used and raised a family. If they return next spring and nest in this box I will revise my review to all 5 Stars with pictures.

We have had a dove nest in a basket this summer and she had had 2 eggs 3 times so far this summer. We decided to give her an upgrade, or so we thought, and bought this dove nesting box. Although costly we thought it would be worth it but it certainly is not worth the cost nor is it a good practical dove nesting box. It is way too small certainly the dove at our house could never have fit in the nesting box nevermind with 2 babies! This nesting box looks like a small Christmas Manger that did not sell and was renamed a dove nesting box. Would never ever recommend this dove nesting box and the seller was very hard to work with when we immediately wanted to return it. 😕 the product should be negative "stars" along with the seller!

I had a dove nesting in a evergreen tree right outside my kitchen window inside an old blue jay's nest. After she used it for a year producing many babies the nest was completely falling apart. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that she was back again this year looking at the dilapidated shack of a nest. I found this sellers nesting box and purchased it asap. It is very well designed and built and shipping was very quick. I put it up on a large straight limb about 12" from the old nest and two weeks later she is now back filling the box with twigs etc ! Makes me feel better too because now I wont have to see her off spring precariously moving around the flimsy old flap of a nest.

This is well made. I wish it was bigger, it is a little small for Mom and all her babies.

just what I wanted

I could not give this product 5 stars yet cause I base 5 stars when a bird has nested. Not sure why people want a smooth sanded surface. This is for birds and they could care less. It’s better the wood be more natural and not sanded and stained. He shipped this product quickly as well. There was nothing wrong with the screw In the middle either. I’m also referring to the reviews I read before I purchased. It’s already up so will update when I get a bird and yes I think I’ll get a nest. Update....the house is being used by a native pair of house finches. Good enough for me. I’m happy!
