Possible Seconds?
From what I can tell the item I received seems to be 'seconds' defects in the wood and the board is not square on the base, dark squares are varnished with what appears to be two different varnishes. Pieces have no weight to them at all.Other than that it is quite novel and has kept my daughter playing for longer than she usually does, climing the steps to your opponents side gives the game a bit more depth and does feel great after playing on a flat board forever, I do think the next one I purchase will have to be a similar product to this.Would recommend the product type but not this exact product. Hope this helps.

Good but buy some wood glue.. :) 4 almost 5.
I like the board a lot. HOWEVER two blocks had fallen off when it had arrived due to rubbish glue. They slot back into place easy and not noticeable when playing just spend a couple of pounds for glue if it happens. If that hadn't happened I would have given it a 5 its still a strong 4. I have been using the board as a teaching tool for my daughter to show her to protect and control the raised squares more than the others. All in all, I like it.

Great quality board and lovely pieces.
Amazing quality item with lovely chess pieces. Really good quality and great multi-level play. Really great quality and definitely looks more expensive than it is. The box it comes in is basic but the contents more than makes up for it! Would recommend this item.

Would be better if it was hinged to fold back on itself.... but very nice board. Note I'm going to buy some better pieces

Disappointing.
Nothing like the glossy smooth squares in the photos...many dented squares and chipped, rough edges, some with rough texture - blocks laid side grain on upside. Not flush (planed) on sides, not even varnished...looks so cheap. Base board is superior quality to blocks.Offered refund etc., but just so terribly disappointed when opening box.
