Shimano fc-4703 is the 10 speed version of the crankset that you really want Shimano fc-R3030 is the 9 speed crankset FC-R2030 is the 8 speed version. You will need a Hollowtech BB -but they are cheap. BB-RS500

Would this fit a 1994 Trek 820 Mountain Track?

Yes, I have it on my 1994 Light/Dark Green Trek 820, replaced the original set with the bottom bracket with the Shimano UN55 Bottom Bracket 68X122.5MM.

does this crank come with a chainguard?

Depends on your selection from the dropdown menu at the top of the window. Go ahead and select a size and the window will refresh showing the details of that particular selection. It will EITHER have a chainguard and come with riveted chainrings, OR it will have removable chainrings with replaceable bolts (of course) and no chainguard.

Are the crank arms offset enough for a mountain bike?

"Bottom bracket width" is the spec you need to worry about regarding whether or not your crank arms have enough space.
