Astro Pneumatic Tool 49801 Quick Change Retainer Chuck .498 Shank

It's disgraceful that astro didn't include this in the box with either of these air guns. Damage almost occurred because I was using my 4980 out of the box with their spring retainer. The bit shot off and hit my wall hard. Imagine if there was someone else near me. Even if I was pushing against something hard the bit on the spring retainer would fly off almost instantly, shooting in a different direction each time. These guns are too powerful for a spring retainer. It's not even a beehive retainer. I didn't use the 4980 until after this came in the mail. Now I haven't had any problems in the 4 months I've been using her. Just keep in mind this item is 100% necessary for operation of either 4980 or the 498k. It's a simple design and I think it will last a long time. I've only just gotten the 498k since I used my big nasty so much, and immediately put another one of these on. Never trying the spring retainer on a .498 rivet gun again.

Great quality tool. Really impressed to be honest and I’m tough to impress. I generally have a bad attitude when it comes to tools but this one looks excellent. Haven’t actually used it yet so we will see.

Good product for a good price

Here's the deal:I buy this adapter in order to use some Mayhew Bits I purchased by mistake. I hadn't realized they didn't fit my air hammer. So, I buy this adapter to fit the .491 chuck size.This adapter didn't work though. Still the wrong size. Now I'm $70 in the hole on the Sunex air hammer, $70 on the Mayhew bit set, and $50 on this adapter. $190 all together, and I still can't use my air hammer.It's actually a defective air hammer as well. Just blows air. Needs a rebuild. Quite a string of bad luck.Question for anyone who knows... Aren't there only two sizes for automotive air hammer applications? Is there a third size adapter to purchase?This Astro part is well made, but I'm giving it 3 stars, because it doesn't fit what the description said it would.I'm so frustrated by it all, I'm thinking about bringing the air hammer to field in the middle of nowhere, blasting some gangsta rap, and smashing it to pieces "Office Space," style with my beer league softball bat.Seriously though, I am going to chuck it all, then buy a real tool off the Snap-On truck. The price will hurt, but I'll never have to go through this rigamarole again.
