(Mostly) Successful Solution of a Minor Issue

Purchased this booster to solve a minor issue. My new Panasonic phone system (model KX-TG994) can’t quite operate in “ECO” mode consistently in my bedroom (just a few feet too far away from the base unit), I thought that this might solve the problem. The base unit has to go where it is (it’s where the most centrally located phone jack is); on one side of the living room, beneath the “breakfast” counter between the living room and the kitchen. The booster can be installed in a more central/higher location than the base, offering better coverage for both the living room and bedroom (they share a wall.) I determined exactly where to put the booster, powered it up and registered it to the base.Registration went smoothly, the 2 LED’s went through a quick succession of color changes before finally ending on both being solid green. This is the best possible outcome, as it indicates both proper operation and a good signal; an amber LED for the antenna indicates a weak connection with the base. A red status LED and blinking red for the antenna indicates that the booster is too far away (not connected), but is registered. If you were too far from the base for successful registration initially (you don’t get any of the above indications, or “status” is amber), move closer to the base and try again. After successful registration, if necessary, move the booster around so that you get both LED’s green for best performance. Don’t expect miracles, at most this unit can double the range in the direction it’s installed away from the base. In my case, I never saw anything but both green, so I didn’t have to search for a better position. The coverage without the booster is not a problem (my condo is fairly small.) This project was an attempt to increase the range of “ECO” mode to improve battery life/talk time. (“ECO” mode reduces the transmitter power of the handsets to accomplish this.)Once the booster has been positioned it might take a few hours for the intended improvements in handset performance to be realized. I temporarily put the booster near the place that I wanted to install it permanently to see if it would work there before putting screws in the wall. I noticed that it took a while before the bedroom handset (sitting in its charging base) indicated that it was in “ECO” mode. This delay in improved performance happened again when I did the permanent installation. I moved the booster (but didn’t unplug it) while measuring and placing the screws. Once the booster was in its permanent location, the handset was no longer in “ECO” mode. I was concerned, because, you know, screws. A few hours later the handset was back in “ECO” mode!Over the next few days, the bedroom handset has been switching back and forth between being in or out of “ECO” mode while in its charging base. The system appears to be more dynamic than I realized. It was never in “ECO” mode before installing the booster, however, so there’s definitely been an improvement. If not currently in “ECO” mode while in the charger, it does “kick in” once the handset is picked up to make a call, which is the important thing! (Also, mostly didn’t happen without the booster.)It seems that there’s more going on than meets the eye with this system as a whole. I expect that it’s fine tuning its performance constantly. Once all components are in fixed locations (not in use) it does seem to take some time to improve general signal performance, but it also seems to react immediately (when handsets are in use) to adjust for signal strength changes while handsets are potentially in motion. It also seems to react immediately if there are any negative signal connectivity issues in the system while not in use. This is all conjecture on my part as I’m trying to understand my observations, but what I can say for sure is that it’s not a static system!I haven’t made or answered any calls since the booster was installed, so I don’t know how things will go in that situation; I don’t expect any problems. The result is not exactly, but mostly, what I hoped for.

Great range even through metal shop walls

Ive always had trouble with our phone system signal around my shop. If you were to walk outside it would likely start dropping calls and you couldnt even think about walking around back.I mounted this range exteder on the front wall of the shop thinking it would at least allow me to walk outside while on the phone without losing a call. Not only can i go outside now, but ive found that i can go basically anywhere around the yard without any call quality loss.I mounted it on the front wall but i can now even walk all the way around the building to the back and carry on a conversation with a customer. Covers nearly all but the farthest edges of my property which is about 1.5 acres so its no small thing.Much better results than anticipated definitely happy to have bought it.

Panasonic does not have support.

I Did the on line support and it would take my message, but no one ever got back with me, I also left my email but the didn't work either. I went to their site online and filled out a email response sheet, again they never answered. I purchased the five piece phone set and one additional phone, because 6 phones was all the base would handle. I purchased the KC=tgfa975 phone system. These have no where near the range as my previous Panasonic phones had. So I wanted to buy the extender KX-TGA407B but I didn't know if it used a phone slot in memory or if it had it's own spot in the base memory. Well I purchased it anyway and luckily it has it's own spot in memory, so I could still use all my phones. But no help from them. The extender works on my phones now, but even with that it still doesn't have the range of my other phones.

Easy setup. Now I get clear signal where it used to be choppy.

Connected up to my base unit very easily and now I get clear signal where it used to be choppy. I had the rev A version of this previously which doesn't work with the newer panasonic dect phone system but looks identical. This rev B version works.

Couldn't link the device with my base phone

I had to return this because I couldn't get it to link with my base phone (a Panasonic). It went most of the way through the process (based on the sequence of indicator lights) but then stopped, incomplete according to the indicators. This happened even when the device was sitting two feet from the base unit. I might have been doing something wrong, but I tried to follow the directions as well as I could understand them. This happened multiple times.

It works!

It extended the range of our phones, and it was easy to program.

Did the job!

I was struggling with keeping an upstairs phone connected to the base station downstairs. I came across this item and gave it a try.I don't understand why some reviewers have complained about the instructions. I found the instructions straightforward and easy to understand. The whole pairing process took me maybe two minutes, including reading the instructions once through before starting.Once paired with the base station, I positioned this range extender on a landing about halfway between the base station and the troublesome phone. Problem solved! The phone upstairs now has a strong enough signal to stay connected to the base station.A little pricey for what it is, but worth it to make the upstairs phone reliable. Recommended.

Seems to work if you place it just right. Doc is terrible.

It works but it's not a miracle. placement within the house is critical.Documentation for this thing is terrible. It's written in broken English by someone and not proofed well. Once you figure out how to pair with the base unit, you pretty much just move it around to find the right place to plug it in. The paired LEDs give you a good indication of signal quality where you put it.I've heard you can use two of these at once, but I'm not clear on if both need to be in range of the base station or if you can chain them to extend further.I'm also unclear on the limits of the total number of handsets and boosters, but I think there is one. I think it's like 5 total things connected to the base station but really I'm not sure.
