Motor was dead on arrival.
Filter worked intermittently. Works for a minute, stops for 3/4 minutes, then works for a minute or so again before stopping for 3/4 minutes. Returned. Not worth the hype. Stick to Eheim/Aquael.

Great filter!
Love this filter. For the most part it is super quiet. As you can see in the videos. But you must have the water at a specific level with the filter. If water evaporates a little bit it will make a little bit more noise. And I’ve noticed you do have to play with the water flow a little to get that quietness. I personally don’t care what it sounds like as it’s in my living room and this filter is the best bang for its buck. I got the 75g filter for my 40 gallon as I want to stock it pretty good and need as much filter capacity. Which you can see the compartment in the filter is huge. I managed to fit my old filter media in there to start up my cycle a little faster. What’s also nice is that the motor is on the inside of the tank. So you don’t have to prime it after every water change. And if the power goes out. That’s one of the main reasons I picked this over aquaclear or the likes. And I do love that it’s a surface skimmer(when the water is at the right level) especially for the fish I plan to keep in there, they don’t like a lot of water movement. I think the quality is fantastic. Comes with media. You will want to get filter floss and just cut it to the cartridge size just to trap any particles. For reference it’s the green stuff in the picture. And you will probably want an intake sponge if you want to keep shrimp. Because this does not come with one and the holes are pretty big on it.

Best HOB style filter currently on the market, but caution for tanks with shrimp or fry
Model: Seachem Tidal 75 Filter media: Coarse sponge (included), Fluval Biomax (separate purchase), Seachem Purigen + media bag (separate purchases), and Seachem matrix (included) Tank size: 60 gal 48"l x 12"d x 24"h Stocking: Red cherry shrimps, neon tetras, bamboo shrimp, rams horn and trumpet snails The Tidal 75 is a powerful filter with many conveniences that make it superior to other brands and models. Removable media basket is such a great design. Flow control works really well. At max flow intake, my media restricts the flow too much and the water level rises a bit too high in the filter - so I keep the flow in the middle range. Also at max flow, I found it to be too turbulent for my little shrimps and fish, and some waste and sand was being kicked up from the substrate. I don't find the filter noisy. The only noise I notice is any splashing caused by having the flow too high, or any air that gets trapped in the basket when starting the filter dry (the trapped air clears itself over time). The impeller is located inside the tank which also dampens any noise. Note to tanks with shrimp or fry - this filter will suck up smaller organisms and kill them. I was not careful initially and did a sloppy job with securing mesh to the filter and lost about 10 shrimp who found their way into the filter, including a berried momma. I have since redone this with sponge and filter floss instead of mesh as outlined below: 1. end of the tube (don't forget to cover the hole at the very bottom) 2. on the cover below the impeller - remove the cover and put a sponge over the grille on the inside of the cover 3. surface skimmer intake - remove the impeller and use a kebab skewer to push filter floss into the gap to cover the grille
