Reliable PLA with consistent prints and no tangles
I’ve been using this SUNLU PLA filament on my 3D printer and overall it’s been very consistent and reliable. The spool came neatly wound, and importantly, I haven’t run into any tangles at all during use. That alone makes it less stressful than some cheaper filaments where you’re constantly watching for feed issues. Print quality has been solid across multiple prints. Layer adhesion has been dependable on standard PLA settings, and I didn’t need to make many slicer adjustments compared to other brands I’ve used. It just works without much tuning, which is nice for everyday printing. The black color is deep and consistent throughout prints, with no noticeable fading or patchiness. Surface finish comes out clean as long as your settings are dialed in properly.

Great for the cost
Love Sunlu filaments. Never had any tangles or issues with their spools. Their PLA prints great and smoothly with stock Ender3 and Kobra3 printers. Color is accurate and consistent

Flawless AMS Feeding & Clean Prints – Sunlu Black PLA Delivers Every Time
This has been a great experience so far. I’ve been running Sunlu Black PLA on my Bambu Lab P2S with the AMS2 Pro, and it feeds flawlessly through the AMS without any issues. The spool arrived tightly vacuum sealed, and through the first half of the roll I haven’t encountered a single tangle. Print performance has been equally solid. Bed adhesion is excellent on both a smooth PEO plate and a textured PEI plate—no lifting or inconsistencies. Layer adhesion is strong, and the finished prints have a clean, consistent surface with a really nice overall finish. I’ve be included a time-lapse and a couple of photos of a paper towel holder I printed with this filament. It turned out exactly how I hoped—clean lines, solid structure, and a great final appearance. I haven’t finished the full spool yet, but based on the first half, this is a very dependable PLA that performs exactly as expected. If consistency, ease of use, and solid print quality matter to you, this is an easy recommendation. I’d absolutely buy this again.

Good
I am equally satisfied with both the print quality and the strength of the material. The finished prints are clean and neat, with virtually no stringing or overspill, and the surface finish is uniform. Throughout the entire process, there were no issues such as nozzle clogs, filament breaks, or inconsistent extrusion. The material exhibits excellent bed adhesion and interlayer bonding, resulting in parts with good toughness—they are not brittle and are resistant to breaking. Given this level of quality, the price is very competitive. After comparing it in actual use, I believe it is on par with the original filament I’ve used before—equally excellent. The filament also has a beautiful, subtle matte finish, resulting in a high-quality, premium-looking final product. The overall user experience is excellent.

Great filament for prototyping, save the expensive stuff for your final print!
Bang for the buck it works great. I use it for my test models and it does just what I need. Maybe with some experimentation I could eliminate the only noticeable issue, that would be warping at the edges as it cools and lifts off the plate. Not horrible, but it does happen. Don't know if it's enclosure, plate or head temp that is needs tweaking, but I've never have any such issue on my CORE ONE+ using Joseph's genuine filaments. Bottom line, if I'm going to burn a bunch PLA mocking up a prototype this does the job. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Now that I'm looking at the picture I'm posting I also see some signs of stringing, very minimal though. Then some layer imperfections all at locations where internal features begin and end. They all have to do with my printers settings, I'm sure they could be worked out if I had the time or a Filament Profile. I just checked and PrusaSlicer, they have 3 Sunlu profiles(PETG, PLA & PLA+ 2.0). I'll take a look at the profile and see what settings have been modified. Hunch is that it will fix all my problems with this product. If it does, I'll come back and give it 5 stars. Happy Printing!

Great filament!
Sunlu so far has been in my top 3 brands to print with. I have had fantastic results with it over the last 2 years (im actually printing with this specific roll atm lol). Great adhesion, great layers. Have yet to have a clog or tangled spool (knock on wood). This is my 11th roll from sunlu and I will keep buying.

Does not tangle! Had to tweak settings to print consistently on Bambu Printer
Has yet to tangle or get jammed which I am impressed with because that has been a pain for other filaments. It has been frustrating to print sometimes but I am giving it five stars because all the issues I have experience may very well be a Bambu issue, not necessarily a filament issue. The filament does not stick very well to my base plate on the most default settings but I have had to make some tweaks the settings to get it to print consistently. My Settings tweaks: Does not stick to print bed when labeled as generic PLA (perhaps a bambu issue, not a Sunlu issue), prints better when I labeled it as a Bambu PLA?? Sometimes it will print straight to the base plate but other times I have needed a raft or brim, so may require some experimentation

Not so sure about this stuff - print issues
I'm using a Prusa I3. It's been a good printer so far, but I've been feeding it filament from Prusa. Recently I switched to this SUNLU black PLA, and I've seen issues. One is definitely the manufacturer's fault. The spool it comes on is a typical plastic bobbin. They put a small hole in the bobbin to thread the filament into, to hold the end in place while they wind it. Unfortunately the hole is on the inside of the cylinder instead of on the side, which means there's a tiny nub of filament sticking through the bobbin's inner ring - the thing it rotates on as filament gets drawn by the printer. Once a revolution, this tends to get caught on the printer's support rod, and the filament stepper motor then has to pull against the weight of the whole spool to get the next inch of PLA. I can't be sure because I wasn't watching it, but I think that's why a 10 hour print job failed partway through - the tension caused something to get misaligned and the printed model got knocked over. I tried cutting off the nub, but it's about impossible to get it all, so my workaround involves electrical tape over the nub, an extra tube between the support and the bobbin, and lithium grease. So far I think it's working, but witchcraft involving lithium grease shouldn't be necessary The other issue is that this stuff seems fussy about temperature. Printed at 215, it was messy and stringy. At 210 it's still prone to leaving threads all over the print job, but it's better. I never had this threads problem with Prusa's filament. Maybe it's a matter of tuning and experimenting but I can't say i'm satisfied. I'll note I also got some PETG translucent from SUNLU and it didn't have this stringing problem, but then PETG isn't PLA. Bottom line, I think I'll stick to Prusa's more expensive PLA in future, and do more with PETG, as it doesn't seem harder to print and seems to come out a bit better. I think I can finish my current project with this PLA, but I don't quite trust it. For people concerned about color, though, this is a nice rich deep black, with some gloss (where it doesn't string). Addendum: I had ongoing adhesion problems with this stuff. A model that printed fine with Prusa's house PLA filament would routinely come off the platter during printing with this stuff, and in the end I had to add extra material to the model's base, and print with a brim, to get it to work. I got a usable print in the end but it took half the spool to figure out how, after trying realigning the printer, cleaning the platter with acetone and alcohol before each attempt, etc. The loss of time is what decided it for me - there's not much more annoying than having a 6 hour print job fail after 3 hours, except for when it happens 3 times in a row.

Buen filamento.
