each drainage channel is 1 metre long x 70mm deep x 125mm wide

Is it possible to shorten with hack saw?

Yes it is. I cut mine with hack saw and it was easy.

Can these have holes to drain? Do they need to be connected for drainage or can they just sit in the ground?

Ideally you would connect to drain but you could just fit them direct to channel and drill holes in the bottom. The quickness of drainage depends on the material in the ground.
