Professional looking modern gate
It is a very solid and well made kit. However it is not easy to build. It does take two people to build and lots of cursing will be involved. The gate can be shortened or widened as needed if you have the ability to cut top and bottom rails and drill new holes. The boards can be vertical or horizontal. The 1inch recommended boards are a very tight fit. I simply used a small piece of wood as a wedge to widen the gap so I could get each board in. Once I figured that out assembly was a breeze. You don't have to miter the edges of the boards. Hammer in your wedge block, slide in your board and hammer your wedge over to make room for the next board. Repeat till the end. They do fit.I did a horizontal gate and used plastic spacers to leave a half inch gap between boards. The gate is extremely heavy once built and will require two people to move. Each gate took about two hours to build. I would recommend using metal posts to hang the gate on as they are very heavy once assembled.

Don’t waste your time
Don’t buy this gate unless you want to be frustrated beyond belief. We bought it because we loved the look but sadly didn’t read the reviews first (which is on us obviously). We’ve worked on it for the past three nights for a couple hours each and cannot get the last corner piece to match up to put the bolts in. After reading the reviews, we believe our problem is the wood we bought (1x6”x6’) is too wide, just like some the reviews have said. Don’t know if we actually try again or just scrap it and a different route.

Looks very nice
This gate kit wasn't that difficult to work with, even though we had to cut it to size to fit our opening and desired hight. I read all the reviews and was a little scared but followed the advised of a few reviews and purchase thinner wood. Fence material in cedar about 5/8" in thickness. I cut it to size and after sanding and staining actually I was left with a lot of room for the boards to fit through the channels. I almost feel I should have gone with slightly thicker material to fit more snug. I wished these kits came in wider formats so we could use the same for our driveway.

Easy to install.
It was easy to install one application I could not go to the 47” because I could not change the posts so I cut it down with a metal jigsaw blade ad it went together good. I cut the width of my pickets down to fit in the gate, I used dado cuts for a 1/2 “ length about 1/16” deep so they would slide in easily. I used 3” deck screws to attach the hinges to the redwood posts because I did not think the screws 1” screws provided were good enough to support the gate. I also attached a 2x4 redwood brace behind the pickets on the gate to provide strength. Over all a good quality gate but does require moderate to advanced wood working skills if you need to modify. Instructions are vague you get two bolts that are longer for attaching the 1/2 the lock to the gate if you accidentally use them elsewhere you have to take it apart to find them “ personal experience “ also all the bolts could be 1/8 “ longer to make it easer to assemble. If you don’t cut down the pickets you have to either pound it in and mare the wood or use a ratchet strap to draw it in .

20 min install my A**!
Took about 3 hours…. Let me start off that standard 6”x6ft pickets do not work! You must buy bigger because that half - 1 inch is crucial! So having to drive back to lowes and exchange pickets to 8ft then get home and cut them down is part of that 3hrs.not to mention what a waste of material and money that is. Also one of my corners came bowed so i had to take some time to fix that because the bolts are to short for that mess…. Then you must cut down the last picket to about 4” in width (i don’t remember the exact measurement) so it is preferable if you have a table saw to get a long straight cut. After all that work, the gate looks pretty good, except the damn arch at the top was not made to size. So now i have to call and complain about that cause that was the kost important piece to me. Im not sure how long it will last as it is all just bolt and nut. I’ll have to go back and add threadlock to all of them one by one….

Will not fit 6' posts. Not so great quality.
"Designed for opening 47″ wide (8 standard fence board wide x 6′ long)" - Well that was a lieMy fence posts are 6' tall (8' total, 2' cemented down). If I put the gate vertical resting on the ground, the top of the bracket that is supposed to fasten to the post is overhanging the post slightly. I still need to raise the gate an additional half inch or so to open it. No way this gate is designed for a 6' long opening. In addition to that, one of the screws stripped easily. The coating is rather cheap and flakes off easily as well. Looks like the base metal is a galvanized steel so that's good. The screws to fasten into the post are smaller than I would have liked them to be. I don't trust them to hold up very well. I can feel the gate shifting around as I carry it. I doubt it will hold square once up on the posts.
