Heavy duty chopper!!
This is cool! A real Cold Steel brute! Good heft! I’m sure it’s strong enough to take heavy use! Very versatile and is damn sharp for a machete chopper! A very elegant blade to boot! I scored it for $29 and some cents! A great deal!

A Great Classic Cutlass Sword, at Machette Prices
From the male of the family. I wanted a couple of fighting swords for home defense, and this Cold Steel cutlass is certainly one of my picks. We have a large property, with lots of wildlife on it as well, including javelina (in the pig family), bobcats, coyotes, and more, so it's nice to have a hefty longknife at my side while working out there. Of course, call it a machete and you can get it for a far better price than most "swords," so that's fine with me.I was watching a video on knife fighting, and one of the instructors said, "if you get in a knife fight, don't ever think you're going to use your arm or body to block a blade. Your best defense is always, don't get cut. To that end, go for your attacker's knife hand." Then I remembered reading stories about battles from medieval times when women would go around after the fighting, and fill entire baskets with fingers. You know what I'm leading up to: if you're going to ever use a sword or longknife in self defense, you want to be sure and protect your hand. Most machetes and even a lot of swords don't do this for you. This cutlass does! That tough polypropylene handle will stop a blade -- or thorny branches, for that matter, if you're using it as a machete. We need the hand protection! As for the blade, it is 2 feet of high carbon steel. That means, it will take an edge. Mine came reasonably sharp, but not enough (and I do understand that it's a safety feature, not to ship a blade with it's keenest edge. The makers don't want your first experience to be slicing yourself!). A few minutes with a file, then stone, and I had a wicked edge. The handle is 6 inches long, and fits my hand very well. I like that the blade has a baked on anti-rust finish, and that the cutlass came with a canvas sheath. This is a great price for what you get!Recommended.

A Superb Limb-Lopper!!!
This is one of those cutting tools that you can't help but to feel like a bad-a$$ as soon as you strap the thing on.I was blown away when it arrived, the box was HUGE!! I reverently removed the cutlass from the box and could not help but to giggle maniacally at the sheer size of the thing. I immediately took it outside to judge Mother Nature for a bit and judge I did. You know those weeds that when ignored become small trees? Yeah, well I've got quite a few of those in my yard and there is this particular small forest at the edge of my yard that we refer to as "Little Cambodia". Now, I'm not joking when I refer to this as a "small forest". In fact, I believe the only way I can retake the ground from nature is by virtue of a flame thrower (which my wife just absolutely refuses to allow me to try) and so I chop away at this ground from time to time in order to reclaim it.This cutlass was devastating, despite the factory edge. The length of the blade allows for an awesome swing that requires little effort in devastating nature. Later, I added a fine razor's edge (not the wrestling move - even though that might be cool) and now the thing's just scary. The grip is cool and I love it; however, the PVC composite that the handle is composed of made me slightly uneasy at the prospect of the thing slipping out of my hand and so I wrapped the grip with 550 paracord to enable me to have a better grip, and plus, it just looks cool; however, it should be noted that I can't snap the sheath closed due to the extra diameter of the paracord around the handle, but honestly, that doesn't matter to me much because I must be ready to draw at moment's notice...trees, zombies, demons, rabid weasels, and home invaders (The added benefit would be that it would certainly be easy to take a trophy-arm or whatnot) ....I take down trees with this sword with reckless abandon that would normally require my chainsaw (Chain-Friend) or my ax (Back-Biter) and we're talking like stuff with like 4-5 inch diameters....mind you it takes a few swings, but hell, let's face it, I like the work-out and the opportunity to vent frustration....Oh yeah, the sheath is straight and not curved like the sword. Again, not a deal breaker, but I thought I would add that.In closing, this sword is awesome! It is a fine friend to have in a myriad of situations. There is actually a video on Youtube where some guys are chopping away at a beef carcass showing off the sword's capability, and I could not help but to be pleased.I have not named my new friend yet, but I'm still working on that....

Talked up more than it really is
I bought this in hopes of it being phenomenal like all the YouTube videos reviews etcetera were on it. I was disappointed but not much, I got kind of what I expects in a sense. It works like it should, the metal the blade is made from is quite durable. The cutlass machete has its strengths and weaknesses. This thing allowed me to hack my way through some woods making a path. I was cutting anything from wet/dry brush to 4" thick trees. The trees were obviously harder to cut down, but swinging through the brush was extremely easy and nearly no effort was needed.Pros:-Length-Style (handguard, blade curvature)-Weight (but also partially a Con)-Sheath-Blade (although annoying, it stayed very sharp after hacking through some woods)Cons:-Quality - blade was honed bad, blade has "J" lip, no matter how you sharpen it-Handgrip/guard (handgrip is not comfortable at all, easily falls out of hand with hard swing, nearly nothing to grip, hand guard works, but you can't really use it for "punching" things, you will end up with a couple broken fingers)-"Recoil" - even though that is not the correct term for it, but when using the cutlass/machete, it has a tendancy to "bounce" off harder objects, such as thicker trees, this leading to a twisted wrist. Also the blade when it "bounces" flails in any given direction making it extremely hard to hold on to.Overall this cutlass/machete is good, I would recommend it to anyone looking for someone to cut through brush and small (2" inch) trees. If your looking for something to cut larger trees down with (4"inch +) I would go with either a shorter machete or one of the shorter "scimitars". This because the "scimitars" allow for faster/deeper cuts into the tree, allowing the tree to be cut down faster and with far less effort.

Machetes are Cool!!!
I had high expectations for this machete, based on the positive reviews I have seen. It did not disappoint. The blade arrived with adequate sharpening. The blade was well finished. Thus far it has handled all the tasks I have thrown at it with relative ease. To make this review a little more helpful, I will give a little more detail about this machetes performance and quality.STEEL QUALITYThis machete is made out of 1055 Carbon steel. It holds an edge well. When in use, this steel is just flexible enough to avoid breaking without compromising performance. It wouldn't be easy break the blade on the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete. For what you pay, I believe this machete's steel quality is astounding.BALANCEIt's a cutlass. As such, it isn't usually a very balanced weapon. But I found no difficulty maneuvering the machete during use. I would say that while the balance is not perfect, it does not detract from the functionality of this machete.PRACTICAL PERFORMANCEWhen subjected to abuse, this machete delivers. If you need a machete that you can abuse, the Cold Steel Cutlass is the machete for you. It's simple to use, maintain, and performs typical tasks with ease. I was able to cut through a one and a half inch thick wooden stick with one blow. That's pretty good for a machete that costs about $30.OVERALL VALUETaking into account the price tag for this machete, I am convinced that this machete is an amazing value. It does everything you could plausibly expect it to do. It's made out of good steel, it handles well, and is priced well. All in all, I am convinced that you will not find many machetes that are a better value than this one. I own swords (including an ordinary cutlass), and this machete performs more like a sword than a machete. It is truly a joy to use the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete. I hope this review was helpful. If you have any questions, comment. I'll be happy to answer them (if I'm able to!). Enjoy your machete!!!

ggaaawwwwwww......
If I could give this machete sword 10 stars I would!!! I just received this when I got home from work. Pulled it out of the package. Which I was a little disappointed about that. ( I ordered a 6 inch cast iron skillet, also with Amazon being the fulfiller of the sale, but, the box was way to big for the 2 items with lots! of room to move around with no bubble wrap of any kind, and there was a big whole punched in the side.... be careful what you order in the same session... Luckily nothing was damaged though. So it's no big deal. Could have been a big deal though, so just be cautious.) But, anyways, I pulled the sword out and from first sight you can tell this thing is a SOLID! tool. Very well built, sleek, great handle, great machete balance, a couple inches up from the handle, and VERY sharp out of the box. The sheath is nice, functional, holds the blade tight. I was thrilled to say the least... So I went out and did some yard work (after a 10 hour work day in construction) that's how eager I was to try this thing... Well I trimmed the headges all around my house and hacked away at a massive amount of Kudzu vines, which have takin over a lot of yards in my neighborhood. It punished those vines like they owed me money (they kinda do) and my headges where all left perfectly shaped. If you're machete shopping for something that works great and will last... Buy this. If you're toy shopping for something that's awesome!... Buy this. (although this is no toy and should be handled with care i.e. VERY SHAP) If you're preparing for zombies or economic collapse... Buy this. I am very happy with this purchase and can't wait to use it again!

Pretty nice, kind of slick handle and sharp heavy blade
Very sharp, very tough. Not particularly well ballanced. It's quite blade heavy, and the grip is far too slick. Good for hacking through brush, bad for dueling in close quarters at sea.

Great Beater Sword
I am very pleased with the Cold Steel Cutlass Machete I received. It is well made and strong. It is also a decent overall recreation of a historical cutlass. Not so much in looks or materials used, but it works and handles in the same general way a real cutlass would. The edge was done well. It has been my experience with Cold Steel machetes that quality control can be lacking with a poor edge being the most common problem. I got lucky and received a good one. The good news if you get a dull or bad edge is that I found the last Cold Steel machete I bought to be easy to sharpen and to correct sharpening mistakes. The low price also means that it can be good experience for someone learning to sharpen. Like other reviewers have said, the sticker on the blade is a pain to remove. Overall this is a great beater sword. If you are looking for a machete to clear brush or other real chores, there are better options. This cutlass is adequate, but its weight, length, balance and thickness will wear you out a lot quicker than a normal machete. The clip pointed tip may also pose a risk to yourself or someone nearby. My point is that if you are looking for a cheap sword to mess around with then this is for you. If you are in need of a working machete to clear serious brush you will likely want a more traditional design.

More then I expected
Shipping was quick, sheath was heavy, 24" of a nice heavy machete can be a little more intimidating when in your hand then it looks on paper. Solid as heck and came with a decent edge. (Even though I prefer to make my own edges, these were decent and saved alot of work, just needed some touching up)I would highly recommend, but buyer beware, these arent cheap tinny little jobbies, these are the real deal and should be handled with extreme caution.

Exactly as Advertised
It showed up as advertised dimensions are nearly spot on and no warps in the blade oiled before shipped so if whiped clean there would be more oil inside the scabbard only complaint is actual width of the steel at 1/8th of an inch i would gladly pay more for a thicker cold steel product still the steel is strong and doesnt bend when swung around overall a great product for the price I paid

Daran sollte man denken. Trotzdem klare Kaufempfehlung.

This one ended up being my favorite because the blade is the longest of all the ...
I own many machetes. This one ended up being my favorite because the blade is the longest of all the machetes I own. I also really like the secure feeling D handle. The handle feels strong and has plenty of room for my large hands. Like another reviewer already stated, because of the long blade, this machete really does look very intimidating when you're holding it. Thankfully, this machete came without the annoying and difficult to remove cold steel sticker on the blade. If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that the write up led me to believe the blade was going to be a little thicker gauge metal. I don't believe the blade is too thin for heavy use , but the 4 inches shorter $20 SZCO Supplies Lanyard Machete I ordered from Amazon has a blade almost twice as thick.Overall, I would highly recommend this machete if you are looking for a machete with a very long blade but isn't too heavy to handle.Damien
