It couldn't be anyone else!
I had heard "Love No. 1" and "Margot" for many years on CD with two cuts each by Jarrett, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner. I finally decided to seek out the original source. I still like those two cuts the best, but the whole disc is worth hearing. Here's Jarrett very early in his career, already with all the lyricism, range, perfect execution and harmonic creativity that marks his style. A few bars into his solo on "Margot" he lays out one of those beautiful rambling runs that seems to come from nowhere. The piano is not up to the quality he would get in later recordings, but it couldn't be anyone else playing! Needless to say, I'm a huge fan...

THE GREAT FIRST ALBUM OF JARRETT TRIO
In this moment, 1967, Jarret was in the Charles Lloyd Quartet. During the sessions of "Dream Weaver" he decided recorded a trio album with two excepcional musicians. Charlie Haden and Paul Motian. He choose Haden for his relation with Ornette Coleman, and Motian for Bill Evans. In this first album you can hear the bases of his music. The lirical roots and the experimental roots. Great album with incredible moments. Now sound better than never and have a incredible price. Not only for Jarrett fans. You must get it. Great¡¡¡

Keith Jarrett with Charlie Haden and Paul Motian in 1967
The first Keith Jarrett trio, recorded in studio in 1967: Keith Jarrett on piano, Charlie Haden on acoustic bass and Paul Motian on drums. Seven original compositions by Jarrett, one standard by Cole Porter. 49 minutes of mostly well paced themes, with beautiful playing from Jarrett, complex solos dense of musical ideas. Somehow a combination of Bill Evans and Herbie Nichols, enriched by with various moments of free improvisation, all infused with the already strong musical personality of Jarrett, included his "signature singing while improvising". Not always an easy recording session, but a totally rewarding experience if enough time is granted to the necessary repeated listening. Interesting to observe that this music is more similar to the recent output of pianists Frank Kimbrough and Kenny Werner than the Keith Jarrett standard trio. Recommended to any jazz piano enthusiast wanting to hear Jarrett taking his first steps in the trio setting, defining concepts further developed three decades after in "Inside out" (recorded 2000) and "Always Let Me Go" (recorded 2001). Good packaging with new linear notes (2004) as well as the original linear notes by Jarrett himself. Very good re-mastered sound quality.
