Description

  • Our "Best Seller Pad", Perfect for Basic skill development. Mimics closely the 3 main layers of the skin in texture and appearance. Self adheres to any surface without leaving marks (No need for pad holders). "White Coat Friendly" 5x5in size / light weight - tested by local students to be the perfect working space for the best productivity. Don't get tricked by smaller or larger pads they become useless after awhile.

Master of Surgery started on the fall of 2014 by a group of entrepreneur surgery residents and simulation research fellows from with strong interest in surgical skill development and medical education. During our research time we experimented with a few different types of materials, textures and densities. After trial and error we created a unique silicone mix that resembles the human skin and its different layers. As researchers of course, we conducted different types of studies on novices and expert surgeons, resulting in a product that has received recognition by the local surgical authorities. Our mission is to provide the highest quality of materials for the accurate development of surgical skills and we hope to expand our production and built affordable low and high fidelity simulation materials for training in traditional surgery, as well as in minimal invasive surgery.

Great bare bones product

Pros:-simulates skin for suture practicing-good space to work with-color coded layers (epi, derm, subq)-approximates wellCons:-pricey-the different layers don't seem to be much different (other than color), you can easily cut/suture one layer or the other with out distinguishing as such-no backing, thus it's possible to make an incision right through it (I used cardboard underneath - see pic)-no case - open to the air/environment so prone to getting dirty/picking up lint/etc (I keep mine in a zip lock bag during non-use)Recommendation: BuyVery practical, affordable, and bares bones product if you know what you need

A solid option to practice subcuticular suturing outside of the OR

I'm a third year medical student and I was looking for a pad I could use to practice closures before my plastics rotation. This pad is best for subcuticular suturing and port closures as it is very thin (I think there are thicker options, but they were out of my price range). It mimics skin surprisingly well, much better than foam counterparts I have used in our sim center. Also the layers of the skin are fairly well represented and are visible after making an incision in the pad. Given the bottom of the pad sticks to whatever you put it on, I found that a slightly elliptical incision was most easily accomplished by making a single vertical incision and then picking up the pad and stretching it apart before resetting it on the surface. This worked better for me than cutting out an elliptical shape to begin with and was most effective for incisions in the center of the pad.I thought the price was reasonable considering how expensive some of the alternatives are. Still not cheap given the size of the pad, but as a medical student I like being able to keep this out on my desk and practice whenever I have some free time, which isn't a very reasonable option with pig's feet. So for all of the above reasons, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this product.

Pocket Size Skin Simulator

These do not of course mimic skin tissue very well, but these do help with practicing your suturing technique.

Too flimsy. Unable to truly practice suturing. Suture tears right through it with minimal force. If I had not already made an incision to practice, I would be returning this for a refund.

Just like skin without the hair. Provides life-like feel and resistance to needle.
