OXO Good Grips Etched Coarse Grater with Handle, Orange

I’ve been using this grater for a few weeks now, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite kitchen tools! It’s ideal for grating a wide range of foods, including semi-soft cheeses, zucchini, onions, and even butter—basically everything I need for cooking and baking. If you’re like me, you’re 5’8” and you’re named Jason. And, you don’t like buying pre shredded cheese because it doesn’t melt nicely. This is very simple to use. It’s fast, it’s sharp, and it holds up well. Definitely worth the money.

I was looking for a good reasonably priced coarse cheese grater. This one is the perfect choice for grating cheeses for making pizzas, it’s easy to hold over a bowl or whatever container you have, it’s super sharp and easy to clean. The size is also just right, very easy to grate large blocks of cheese. The build quality is excellent, it doesn’t feel like it going to break or bend when applying a good amount of pressure on it. It's a very solid grater. The only advise I would give besides saying you should buy this one is that you need to be very careful with it because again it’s really sharp, but that’s what you want it to be.

I LOVE this handheld grater! I have had several over the years. Since we stopped purchasing bagged shredded cheese, I use this grater sometimes multiple times per day. Besides, it not being one of my preferred colors, it can't be beat! It has ease of use, ease of cleaning, and it just works well.

The grater is sharp but the plastic around the grater broke after several uses.

This grater does everything I want. The grater blades are sharp, but I'm not in danger of grating my fingers into the salad. It doesn't slip around on the bowl, due to the rubber edges. The handle is easy and comfortable to grip. The cover slips onto the grater easily and provides good protection. And slim dimensions means it slides easily into the cupboard, and fits between other items without taking up much room at all. Would that all kitchen tools were this satisfactory!

I've bought two of these graters now. I mostly used them to grate carrots and beets for salads. The first one purchased several years ago was very sharp at first. It would cut the tip of your finger off by barely grazing it. So definitely pay attention and don't grate things down so close to your fingers. Over a few years the first grater is still plenty sharp, but has "dulled" down to a reasonable sharpness. I can still grate my carrots easily and quickly, but lose less chunks of fingertips. The second one I purchased in 2025 (for another kitchen) isn't razor sharp, but plenty sharp for carrots and veggies. It is more forgiving of a finger graze, but also grates very effectively after a couple months. They both make quick work of a carrot. I find it well designed for comfort and storage. The rubber end foot doesn't slide on the cutting board. The handle is plastic and hard rubber. It's a good size for gripping, solid with a touch of cushion and doesn't slip in my hand, which I find is comfortable for the duration of grating. I wouldn't use it for grating horizontal over a bowl. The angle would be wrong and the grater doesn't have notches to hold on to the bowl. But I prefer grating over a cutting board anyhow. It's best holding the grater at an angle, stabilizing it on a flat surface. You could use it free for something quick like cheese on top of a dish, but I think it's better to push down on a solid surface for stability and not accidentally cutting yourself. I like the snap-on cover to protect the blades and things in your drawer. It has a flat profile and stores easily. I hand wash it and the materials have remained in good shape over the years.

I was amazed at what an upgrade this was from my old grater. To be fair, my old grater was my mother’s, so it was about 70 years old, but this OXO is light years better. A nice surprise is the tray-type area on one side. When grating with the raised sides on top, it collected the cheese shreds which I could then transfer to my dish. The whole thing worked very well, was comfortable, efficient, and easy to clean. Wish I’d bought this years ago.

It's a good cheese grater. We have 3 and buy a new one every year or two. Its a plastic frame so it breaks with heavy use. But I like the overall shape etc.

Solid hand grater which has been in use for around a year now with no issues. Performance has stayed consist, the grip is intact and I’ve had no trouble even harder cheeses or vegetables at any point. I’ve noticed other reviews mention problems after being placed in the dishwasher but I’ve found this kitchen tool so much easier to clean than a box grater that I don’t even bother dishwashing it at all! Storing it is very easy, and it just happily sits in the kitchen drawer without taking up space.
