Five Star Show in a Zero Star Case.
Enjoyed this series. My local PBS station had aired some of these videos, but started in the middle and then quit. This gave me a chance to start from the beginning. Compared to US cop shows, these are quiet. No car chases and shoot outs in every episode. Just a mystery to solve. I haven’t read any of the novels, so cannot compare the stories. Region 2 discs played in my all-region Sandoo player with no problems. The DVD case is terrible. The earlier seasons are double stacked in dual space trays [4 discs to a one sided tray]. The first two discs overlap the second two, so you need to remove 3 discs to get to the 4th one. First flip tray has 4 discs on each side – that’s 8 discs on the first flip tray. Second flip tray has 2 discs to each side, and the back holds another 2. I had a hard time getting the last tray to come loose from the back. The flip trays tend to stick when you move them and need to be re-positioned to get the case shut. The case doesn’t latch well. It’s not easy to get the discs off the hubs. There is no need for this. This set is 18 discs. The case is the same size as the one that “All Creatures Great & Small” came in and that case holds 18 discs with one disc to each side of a tray. Fortunately, I had already purchased some empty multi-disc cases to replace a broken one. I used one of those and put the discs in it as I watched them so I didn’t need to keep shuffling them.

Their way of catching the bad guy is slightly diffirent than America , but very interesting !
I don't usually like cop shows , but Vera ( the series ) is so interesting and a bit odd in a funny way ( Vera herself ) . Seeing England so lovely and green is very beautiful , makes one wish they were there . Some of the characters are a bit hard to understand , ( accents and all ) , but it takes you away to a different place where they do have criminals too , just not so graphic as America . Vera is worth seeing , just to know how they do things and all work together to get the job done . I love this series ! I bought every season they had , I want more please .

If you like British dramas, this is a really good one.
This is our second copy of this set; the first one had some defective discs that continued to skip or didn't finish the episode/disc. Amazon took it back, no questions asked, and sent another set which we received the next day. They also provided a return code which we took to UPS to return the defective set to them at no cost to us. We're 1/3 of the way through this set and so far no issues; fingers crossed for what we have yet to view.

Check the region code when ordering DVDs.
I’m sure I would have liked it, if I could have watched it, but I couldn’t because I live in the United States. The DVD set shipped from the UK and was coded for Region 2. The US is Region 1, and most DVD players in the US are coded for Region 1. Some players have a programming workaround to change the region code, but many do not, including my Sony player, which ironically I also bought from Amazon! So I am returning the DVD set and submitting this cautionary tale to not be like me and make sure you check the region coding when ordering DVDs.

Another Great Series
We love this series. We have been binging on detective shows for the last few months. Midsomer Murders, Vera, Shetland and Luther. All great detective shows and an excellent way to spend our nights at home!

great mystery series
The only temporary issue was to obtain/purchase a dvd player that allowed this set of dvds to be "read"/"played". Since these are dvds from England (or other than the U.S., the buyer needs to have a new dvd player specific for allowing all dvds.Vera itself is a wonderful series. We are enjoying every episode! Thank you!

As un-London as it gets
Not a British cozy. Murder mysteries solved by a hard-boiled, no nonsense but frumpy female detective. They cover all the investigative angles, chase bad guys and rarely use guns. Intelligence without arrogance. A nice evening in.
