If you have a new DTV Receiver with RF Remote-Must Have
It is a little annoying that this product is necesssary. When I upgraded my DTV equipment, I figured the new smaller HD receivers would have all the same functionality as my older ones. To my surprise, I could not configure my RF remote to control the new new unit. Having said that, this adapter was exactly what I needed. I simply plugged this in the ANT port in the back of the receiver and went through the RF/IR Remote setup on the receiver. It works perfectly, I am able to control the receiver from 2 adjacent rooms (about 20' and through a wall). I haven't tested it to see how far it will go but it easily meets my needs. The product was shipped quickly and in good condition. The packaging seemed to be some kind of OEM box but that was no issue for me. Anyone who wants to hide their DTV components in a cabinet or closet, combine this with an RF remote and you'll be set.

Sucks that you even need this thing but it works fine
The older DirecTV boxes had an internal RF sensor so all that was required is a RF remote and you were good to go. These new (H25) boxes have no such internal sensor so you have to order this little beauty and plug it in in order to utilize the RF utility of the box. Kinda crappy that DirecTV chose to go this way but like Apple, they are beginning to understand the concept of making money off of the add-ons, not the product.

Beats Dealing With Direct
I went round and round with Directv before turning to Amazon for the adapter. Their website said my receiver had a built in antenna but it didn't. I had ordered and received the correct remote but then discovered I needed the antenna. Directv cannot or will not sell the adapter separately from the remote and I was told I couldn't return the original remote and then order the remote/adapter combo so the cost of this thing was really adding up. Finally a supervisor said she would just send me the combo but when it arrived it was just one more remote. Luckily my Amazon adapter arrived the same day. I plugged it in and it works perfectly through a wall.

Works like it should
Directv didn't tell me I would need to purchase a separate antenna to use a remote. But after their botched up installation I am not surprised. They wanted an arm and a leg for this antenna but I found it on Amazon for less than 1/2 the price. It works very well - I can now control my receiver from any room in my house.

Saved the day. CAT6 RJ45 Hack for more range.
After hooking up an HDMI and IR extender over cat6 I was getting double commands when using the remote over the IR repeater. I was able to use this and spliced a audio extension cable with RJ45 connectors to go to a central location in the house over about 60ft of CAT6.
