Algebra tiles are particularly useful for practicing adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing integers and polynomials, and factoring polynomials. The magnetic property is particularly useful, especially if you are running a classroom following Peter Liljedahl's Building Thinking Classrooms model. But even if you're not, the magnetic properties make it harder to lose tiles!

They do not come with the box in the pic. Pretty simple, colored magnets. They would be cool larger for on the board, these are nice for small group teaching.

Good for teaching pre algebra concepts.

I am pleased with the purchase but would like to offer some constructive advice to the maker/seller. There are no Y-squared tiles, no y-tiles, and no xy-tiles. The set I have will be great for solving quadratics but won't be useful for demonstrating two-variable equations. Please let me know if you make a set the does contain those tiles.

Most of my middle school math students loved these (but a few actually found them more infusing than just text). I keep them on my whiteboard at all times - they periodically come in handy outside my original lesson plan/explanation of a concept. Semi-dry erase surface (if cleaned shortly after). I have student follow along with individual sets at their desks.

These tiles stick to the whiteboard in my classroom. They are not double sided like regular algebra tiles, but they are easy to use to demonstrate questions/answers to the class.

I should've read the reviews first. Although this is just a "minor" detail as you can use a plastic shoe box from Walmart to store your stuff, the picture doesn't depict the product. The product comes in sheets inside a plastic sleeve with a cardboard thing (you know those plastic packs you find at the store hanging from the shelves that have cardboard stapled to the plastic so they can hang the item?). YOu have to separate the tiles yourself from the precut sheets. I will use the product, but Amazon should've chosen another picture to depict it.
