Satin Mahogany Soprano Rosewood Update

This was my first ukulele, i bought it a bit over six months ago and I still can't put it down, it's amazing. I'm always VERY weary of buying musical instruments online, but my local Sam ash didn't have anything in my price range, so I chose this based on the wonderful reviews and I'm glad I did. Amazing sound and quality, especially for the price and super fun and easy (but I play guitar so that might be why it took me five minutes to master a good handful of basic chords and an hour to work out "here comes the sun" by ear) to play. I still have the original strings on it and they still sound amazing after all these months. At first the strings WOULD NOT stay in tune (but I've heard that's just a thing that happens with new strings on ukulele) but after a week or two of tuning and retuning (at first every half-hour or so, but gaining time the more they were tuned until they finally stayed) but now they'll stay in tune for a good few days depending on how much I play and whether or not I use a pick ( I'm told your not supposed to, but I'm a guitarist at heart and I prefer the crisper sound it gives the music so I use a thin size guitar pick ) It's also pretty tough, the zipper on the gig bag I bought for it broke about a month in so it's been flying naked to and from band practice and, occasionally, school and there isn't a scratch on it. I'm comfortable with tossing it onto the (carpeted, I wouldn't try it with hardwood or tile or anything) floor of our practice space at my drummer's house without a second thought, plus I'm a total klutz. But you'd never know what it's been through looking at it. My one complaint is that the fretboard feels kind of unfinished, which might present problems in the future with repeated use. Bottom line: his is a great ukulele and you will NOT regret buying it

I keep seeing comments that this is a fantastic beginner uke. That is rubbish. This is a fantastic ukulele regardless of skill level. What do you want before it is no longer a beginners instrument? It has a rosewood fretboard, nickel frets, geared tuners, great action, great sound, comes with quality strings. So what's left? I understand that it doesn't have a solid wood body but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are people like me that don't want to concern themselves with whether or not the humidity in the corner of the bedroom is going to warp the body of our favorite ukulele. I don't have to worry so much about humidity with this ukulele. I have three ukuleles now. One is an Oscar Schmidt OU3 concert and the other is a mango Fluke. The fluke is much deeper and louder. This Kala ukulele manages to remain delicate and still project it's sound well. It's hard to tell you what I appreciate about this ukulele without bringing emotion into it. But I'm going to try to explain. If I were knocking around with a friend who had an acoustic guitar then I would grab my Fluke. If I were singing with a group of kids I would grab my Fluke. It's loud, fun, and looks cool. If I were posing for a picture I would grab my Oscar Schmidt because it looks beautiful. That's mostly what it's good for. Nothing wrong with that. It really is a pretty concert ukulele. However, if i'm going to sit in the front lawn by myself under the moonlight and pitch a ballad out there this Kala is the ukulele I'm taking. If I'm singing to my wife, this Kala is the ukulele I'm using. Do you know what that means? It means that this ukulele is special.

I bought two ukuleles - The KA-S for myself and the KA-15S for my daughter for Christmas. They are both beautiful instruments. I like the appearance of the KA-15S with its darker wood and the etching around the hole. But, I prefer the tone on the KA-S, which I would describe as richer and fuller. The KA-S has a lighter finish with a bit of a golden hue. Both have Aguila nylgut strings, which sound great and are easy on the fingertips. The only negative is that the tuning peg for the E string on the KA-S is loose. It doesn't affect my ability to tune, but doesn't feel right. No issues with the KA-15S. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube, so it's easy to get started playing songs right away. Also, Kala has an online tuning app, so don't need to buy the digital tuner. I absolutely love both instruments! Great value and great fun.

This uke is great to start as it looks & sounds ok but most of all, the price is right. After taking uke lessons (3 weeks), and getting to know other ukes, I think I'd buy a more colorful one next time for fun but this one's great to learn on. You're not out too much $ if you decide you're not going to continue with it. It stays tuned pretty well.

This is the first instrument I have ever owned or played. It sounds amazing and is so much fun to just pick up and jam out some chords. You cannot go wrong with this Uku, I have heard a few different brands/models and I think this one sounds the best (for the cost), it definitely passes that line between toy and instrument. It even comes with nylgut strings, which are the brightest sounding. It is also laminate which means it's strong and forgiving, so you can take it anywhere and don't have to worry about temperature and humidifiers like a solid wood piece. My C string has a little "whistle" to it which is common of cheaper instruments or ones that have not been "set up". It could be fixed if sent to a music shop, but it's so miniscule that it is a non issue for me. It took about a day or so of constant tuning and playing to stretch the strings. It's so simple and fun to just sit down and learn to play your favorite songs! For $50, you could not ask for more fun!

Arrived in perfect condition. Granted, the strings aren't of the highest quality-- but you can change them if you wish. I still find that they produce a vibrant, melodic sound that I'm lazy enough to be happy with. Also, I've always had a hard-on for string instruments. I have had no prior experience with the ukulele, although I grappled a bit with the guitar. So, like many of you, I was freaked out by the order of the stringing-- because the strings on a guitar are in ascending order due to thickness, I thought that the skinny-manly-more manly-skinny string order was unnatural. I almost changed the order-- don't be an idiot. Leave it be. There are also many complaints about the ukulele not keeping tune. THIS IS NORMAL AND NOT AN INDICATOR OF A CRAPPY OR BROKEN INSTRUMENT. The strings need time to stretch out and break in over the span of a week or two. By then, they should be able to keep tune way better. Also, I'm obviously no Sungha Jung or Jake Shimabukuro, but I still feel like a boss when I pick this little guy up. What's better is that I can't put him down. It's one of those instruments that only takes a few minutes to sound not crappy at, although there's still tons and tons to learn to achieve true proficiency. I got a copy of Ukulele For Dummies in conjunction with this product (because I'm a dummy), and I learned a lot in the matter of a few hours. I'd recommend that for anybody else starting out with this instrument. In case you were wondering why I named it Alex (I bet you actually weren't), it's because I thought it sounded a bit like Kala backwards. No...? Okay.

First off, if I was to rate it as a starter ukulele, I'd give it a five. As an overall product, it does have flaws. Mine never quite kept its tune over a few days. Every other day I had to check the tuning. The sound was great though. It felt pretty good in my hands, it doesn't look or feel like a cheap toy. Its a really nice starter ukulele. There were a few songs I tried to learn but this ukulele didn't have enough frets for me to play the song correctly and the further you went down the fret board the funnier the sound got. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants to try out a ukulele to see if they like it. I had this one for about 2 months before bought another one that was 180 bucks. I really enjoyed playing it and made me want to learn and play the ukulele for the rest of my life. Good starter uke.

Excellent mellow sound quality. I ordered the ebony one, but received this one instead. I gave it as a birthday present for my 90 year old best friend and he loves it. It’s beautiful even if it’s not the ebony one. I suggest the $10 Kala clip on tuner! So easy to use!! I’m a musician, so tone quality and intonation are very important to me when choosing an instrument. This Uke got excellent reviews from several well known sources. I loved the video which also helped me make the final decision. Excellent marketing.

Ho comprato questo ukulele soprano a settembre 2017. Dopo svariati mesi di utilizzo, mi ritengo molto soddisfatta di questo strumento! È un ukulele ottimo per iniziare a suonare, ma anche per quei musicisti un po’ più esperti che vogliono divertirsi e sperimentare qualcosa di nuovo. Il legno, la parte più importante, conferisce allo strumento un suono caldo e un buon groove complessivo. Inoltre viene spedito con corde Aquile già montate, il che è assolutamente un punto in più di grande importanza! Nel complesso ritengo di aver fatto un buonissimo acquisto; si ha la sensazione di avere in mano uno strumento di grande solidità! Come al solito, tempi di consegna e spedizione perfetti.

Llegó todo perfecto. El sonido es genial y se nota la calidad. Después de un afinado tiene un sonido dulce y muy hawaiano. Muy contento.

This kala ka-s ukulele is a very well made instrument. It sounds amazing with the Aquila stings and looks fab. This is my second ukulele my first one was a cheap Mahalo and ive been comparing the two and without a doubt the kala ka-s sounds and looks a lot better. I definitely recommend purchasing this ukulele because at this price for such an excellent instrument its well worth purchasing. :)
