I love this hand pump and have no hesitation giving it 5 stars after one month of use. I have the Medela Advanced Pump in Style electric pump, which I've used for a couple of months, and got this Medela Harmony natural expression hand pump because, like a reviewer before me, the hand pump that comes with the Medela electric isn't very easy, practical to use. Here's what I like about the Harmony hand pump: - The suction is excellent. I can pump about 5 ounces in 10-15 minutes. For me, it works as fast as the electric pump on one side (though at home, if I'm not in a rush, I'll use the electric because I don't have to think while pumping). - Because it's so easy to use and clean, it's perfect to travel with. I can pump 6 times a day and it still holds up (but I've only been using it a month). How is it easy to use? You can use it with one hand, while reading a book, browsing through emails, or breastfeeding on the other side. Because cleanup is easier than the electric pump, I'm more likely to use it at night if I need to. - I prefer taking this to work than the electric pump because it's quiet, simple to assemble and disassemble, and I can pump what I need in almost the same time as an electric. That said, it does make my wrist/hand sore after a while, but it's easy to switch hands. (Speaking of pumping at work, I like using the Lansinoh freezer bags - they're made of the kind of plastic that doesn't have bad chemicals (phylates) and have a double closure. That said, you can attach the medela freezer bags right to the pump - but they're just not as easy and you have to use twisties.) - Also, when things are crazy in the house and I can't get away to use the electric pump, it's easier to whip out the Harmony and pump anywhere in the house without worrying about plugging it in. Okay, so the box says it's for "moderate" use. I've been putting it to the test and at times have used it 6 times in one day just because of the convenience and my busy day. I prefer the breast shields from the electric pump, because while the breast shield with the Harmony is more advanced, it actually hurts my breasts after a while. But I imagine that some people might actually find Harmony the shield better. I haven't had it long enough to experience parts failure, but it seems like Medela customer service is excellent from some of the other reviews, so I'm not too worried if something does go wrong.

I've had an electric pump that I've used off and on for the last 10 years and it worked well and much better than any other pump I've tried until now. My electric pump died not that long ago and I'm nursing my sixth baby who is 5 months old so I set out to find a new one. I bought this pump as a cheaper substitute pump until I could decide which new electric model I would buy but this little work horse has me convinced I don't need to buy another one at all. I've been using it for the last month almost every day and it works like a dream. I'm big on doing my homework before buying any product so I checked the pros and cons of manual and electric pumps out these days and the information I found showed this pump to have the second best suction of manual pumps available but the best features so I chose this one. I found it to be light weight, easy to clean, super easy to use, my hand doesn't get tired, fits most bottles, and comfortable- I love that the handle swivels. I also love that I get to choose the pumping cycle (because it is manual) to mimic my baby so I don't even need the let down feature it has, but it has come in handy once or twice. I pump right after I nurse and have only ever been able to get 2 oz. at a time in 15 min. max but was completely surprised when I used this pump for the first time to get 4 oz. in 10 min. after I had nursed my baby. I waited to review it until I put a few more miles on it and I still get more milk in less time than with other pumps I've tried. The cons I've noticed, because I would be lying if I said there weren't any, is that sometimes it feels like the suction is too great and I haven't gotten the hang of controlling how much suction there is consistently so it can get uncomfortable if I use it for too long. Of course you know it's a manual so you can only pump one side at a time but I don't count that as a con since it's twice as fast for me. Also the parts tend to fog up after a few minutes and the valve in the bottle faces only one direction so when I'm pumping on one side I can see the flow just fine but when I switch to the other side I have to work harder at being able to see what I'm getting and that gets annoying. Not a deal breaker but hope they address the problems with newer models. All in all I think it's a fantastic pump and I'm so glad I didn't waste my money on a more expensive one!

My baby is not a very good breast feeder. He often thrashes around, making any nursing cover I use come up and expose me. I find myself pumping and taking bottles places so I don't have to stress about it and so my husband can help feed him. I absolutely love my Pump in Style pump for home and I got a car charger for it thinking I would take it with me in the car, pump while he's driving and then have a bottle for my baby when we arrived at our destination. That pump is just too big and has too many parts to keep track of on the go. I decided that this little pump would be great for the car. Here's what I've noticed about it: The good: -Ease of use: This is very simple to use. The let down mode is helpful, but realistically it's not necessary, you could just do short, faster little pumps to achieve the same effect, but it's still a nice feature. Basically, you just put the cone up to your breast, pump in let down mode until your milk comes and then switch your hand to the bigger handle and pump until you get enough milk. I love that I can adjust my pumping speed and strength according to my milk flow. With the electric pump you just adjust the suction, with this you have a little more control. The pump also comes with a base, but it stands up on its own (but tips easily even with a little bump). -Size: This is very small and inconspicuous in the car. I can pull me shirt partly over it or use my nursing cover and it's hard to tell that I'm pumping. -Price: This is a great price for what you're getting. After going to a family members house the other day and having my son move all around and expose my breast to my father and brother, I definitely think the roughly $32 I paid for this was worth it. -Parts: Like I said, I already have the big Medela, so it's very handy that all the parts are interchangeable. The bottles, caps, yellow valves, membranes and breastshields all work between the two systems. It's very handy since I bought the 27mm shields, now I can use them on both my manual pump and my regular pump. -Extras: I am pleased that this came with a few extras, some of which wasn't listed. My pump came in its manufacturer box. It included: pump, 2 bottles, 2 lids, 2 membranes, 1 valve, instructions, breastfeeding guide (which I found very handy when I first came home from the hospital) and a bonus nipple, lid and collar. The nipple, ring and collar wasn't listed anywhere, so I don't know if it was accidentally included and I just got lucky or if everyone gets it, but it was a nice addition. So, this purchase basically could get someone started on everything they need to pump occasionally (if you also get the extras). The bad: -Tired hands: After pumping both breasts my hand gets pretty tired. There is no way around this and it's definitely not anything I would dock the product for, it's inherent in it being a manual pump. Just something to think about if you plan on using it more than occasional pumping. -Connector hard to clean: The part that connects the shield and the bottle, where the handle plugs into, is hard to clean. There's a tiny hole where the milk passes through to fall into the bottle, that hole doesn't fit any cleaning brush. So, basically you have to clean what you can with soap and then rinse hot water through there and hope it gets clean enough. I have a 9 year old and I owned this same pump when she was a baby so I knew with my son I would be happy buying the same product again. I don't think there have been any changes, but it's a good product, so why fix something that's not broke. I did notice that some people complain of the pump losing suction after some time. I haven't had the problem yet, but I will definitely update my review and change my stars accordingly if I have problems.

This is a life saver. I also have a Medela electric pump that I use to pump at work and works great and wouldn't return! This manual breast pump is a great pump to also have around and has been a lifesaver in the following situations: 1. In a long car rides when my baby gets hungry. I just take this pump out of my purse, and pump in the car to get my baby feed while keeping him in his carseat and not having to pull over. I just give him a pacifier while I pump, pump and then feed him. Win! 2. When I went to Disneyland and wanted to have pumped milk in case my son got hungry while waiting in line or in the middle of the parade where nursing him would not be ideal. The manual pump was a life saver. (Yes, Disneyland has a baby center where you can bring in your electric pump and pump, but carrying the electric pump is such a pain, I just carried this one and used the baby center to pump with my manual pump. Because I didn't need an outlet, I was also able to get a pumping station faster ;) another win!) 3. When I've waken up in the middle of the night, engorged and am too tired to get up and plug in my electric pump to "relieve myself" .. I've just reached for this, and provided some relief to my achy boobs all without getting out of bed (which when you're a sleep deprived mother of a newborn/infant is fantastic!) This pump uses the same bottles and breast shields as the electric breast pump so its nice that everything is universal. When I don't nurse and use bottles, I also use Dr. Brown's bottles and like the medela electric pump, you can pump directly into those bottles. I also liek that it has a "let-down" pumping phase and regular pumping similar to the electric pump :) Took off one star because my electric pump can still get more milk out than this one but this one still gets "the majority" out. Also, the handle sometimes comes off while I'm pumping, but its probably because of the angle I'm trying to pump. I just reconnect and am back at it :)

I bought this while still pregnant thinking it would be nice to have before I bought an electric pump. I was happy with it the few times I used it. I bought the cheapest electric pump with the best reviews (around $120) a week before going back to work. I used the electric one for a couple weeks before I decided I hated it! It did not work as efficiently has the manual pump I had bought. I now only use the manual one. I pump twice a day 3 times a week (plus occasional use at home) and haven't had any problems (all the parts still work). I've been working for 3 months now. It takes me about 20 minutes total including set up, pumping on each side, take down, clean up, and putting myself back together! If I could afford it I'd buy one of the Medela electric pumps, but they're out of my price range right now. I highly recommend this to anyone who's looking for a good and cheap alternative to an electric pump. I realize not everyone would want to pump manually, especially if you're doing it regularly, but It's been a life saver for me! This pump is small, easy to transport, and since you don't need an outlet you can use it anywhere. I've only had one small problem with this product. I once used a Lansinoh brand bottle with the pump and I guess it didn't fit tight enough because the suction sucked (pun!) and I didn't get as much milk. I have used the pump with Dr. Brown's bottles without issue, but I usually just stick with Medela bottles. Good luck! Breast feeding can be challenging and stressful, but I hope this product can help alleviate some of that for you as it has for me!

So first off I used this with my first pregnancy and plan to use again with my second about to be due. Madela products are old consistently used everywhere from hospital to wic so you will always have a lot of support reviews and options with this brand. Parts are very easy to find and cheap compared to other brands which is important if you need to customize this. Lactation consultants are very familiar with this and madela brand parts work on all their machines interchangeable. Whether nursing or pumping exclusively or some combo I recommend this. Also a great gift for any breastfeeding mom even if she’s not gonna constantly use it. I nursed mostly exclusively for two years but I would occasionally use this while out in public or traveling or to store some milk. I had a full sized electric madela breast pump which did not work out well. It was painful and I just didn’t like all the contraptions or to be strapped down. This was more convenient. It also hurt less than a automatic pump because I had more control doing it manually. So even for times your nipples are sore and cracked this is a good tool to have if you need a break from electric pumping but want to store milk. After my first I realized a lot of the discomfort I felt using this or pumping was likely due to having the wrong flange so don’t give up on this if you have some issues. Start with researching flange sizing and products for flanges which is relevant for anyone doing any level of pumping if you want these to work properly and be comfortable or to produce maximum milk. I was not aware of the importance in flange size which my first. It goes in the book of things people don’t really tell you. Easiest way to get help is to bring this to the hospital when you deliver and/or have the lactation consultant check out the flange on your nipple or help you figure out your size before you leave. Same if you are home birthing ask your midwife do the have lactation consultation available to you. If you are unassisted you should still be able to contact the hospital for these services whether you birth there or not. Most always have a contact for the hospitals lactation consultant you can ask questions too. If you can’t afford a big pump or just want to try out pumping or need something for occasional use but don’t need the output of a large electric pump. That being said if on the fence this is worth the buy. No it won’t output the same but it gives you the option to have a handheld. If you are a getting a pump and on the fence about the type because of whether it’s portable this is a good option. I bought the spectra s2, freemie, and madela this time around to have options and see what works best for me but still got this just for the convenience factor and size/ease of use. Put this as a registry item so it can be gifted. Again I recommend this and if you have problems check the flange size. Parts are very cheap and easy to replace at Walmart.

I exclusively pump and have done so for 8 months with this pump. Ridiculous? Absolutely. But it's true. Which means that I've pumped an average of 8 times a day for 8 months, so I've used the Harmony well over 1,900 times. At a rate of 500 pumping motions each pump (it's more, but I'm being conservative), I have cranked this breast pump's handle 975,000 times. Through this use, I have worn through 16 membranes, one o-ring, and one diaphragm. Yes, I wore a hole through the actually diaphragm in the handle from the amount of pumping. My left forearm and grip strength is better than the Hulk's. I was issued one of these at the hospital while my baby was in the NICU. The electric pumps hurt my poor ladybits like some sort of sick torture, and I never expressed much milk. When I pulled this kit out and gave it a go, my boobs rejoiced. I can comfortably control speed, pressure and angle without any discomfort. Let-down happens almost immediately whereas with the electric (I used the Symphony), it would take up to 8 minutes. I am done pumping after 20 minutes, 10 minutes on each side to be completely emptied. I don't suggest to anyone that they use this for exclusive pumping, but for me, it's been a lifesaver for me, my preemie that depends on it's fruit-giving powers, and my nipples. I have three of them now, but I have used one 98% of the time and used the others for spare parts. Some tips if you're losing suction: - Make sure the valve is pushed all the way onto the pump. - If you hear a choking air sound, check you membranes (and valve; if not pushed on all the way air can get through and break suction). The tiniest tear in the membrane can cut suction in half. - If it starts squeaking, take the handle apart and dry out the diaphragm and the post. It can collect a lot of condensation. - Make sure the handle is placed all the way into the pump housing - Check the post inside the handle to make sure it is correctly lined up--if it starts turning, you can lose suction, so the longer sides have to be even with the front and back of the handle. - If you have o-ring malfunctions or lose/break it, go to the hardware store to replace! For a dollar or so you can get a bag of 1/8" inner diameter o-rings that will work. - Dr. Brown's little bottle brush works great at getting into the pump where the milk goes through, and if you don't want to remove your membranes (in fear of ripping them), the brush can get into all the holes nicely. UPDATE: I have now been using this for 11 months to exclusively pump, and it is still going strong. Durable, efficient, silent and not painful. I've gone through another four membranes, but otherwise the Harmony gets five stars in my book!

I have purchased three of these pumps. I also have a medela double electric pump. Pros: -Very easy to use -Portable-fits great in the diaper bag, perfect for on the go -no batteries or power cord needed -accessories are easy to find (medela is sold at babies r us and target) -excellent suction (for a little while anyway-which brings me to cons) Cons: -Looses suction quickly -only made for minimal use -if you don't use the stand and the pump/bottle tips over, milk spills everywhere!! The seal between the pump top and bottle is not tight. The suction is very good in the beginning but it doesn't last long. I purchased this pump with my first son, it only lasted a few weeks. It's made for ocational use and I used it pretty frequently until my medela double electric pump arrived so I blamed that one on my self for over using it. I purchased another one when I had my second son. Again, it only lasted two weeks and I only used it a few times. I was able to exchange that one for my third (and final pump) a few weeks later and my third pump is not working! It works very well in the beginning, but looses suction fast even without frequent use. I really like this pump because medela is a very popular brand and it's very easy to find the accessories (extra bottles, nipples, caps, etc.) I was also able to mix the accessories from this pump with my electric pump. However, I've decided not to buy another one! It should last longer than a few uses, and it's just not worth the hassle. I use my electric pump for the most part but I still like to have a smaller one for on the go. I will try a different brand. There are a lot of options out there!

Excellent hand pump. Quieter than others that I've tried, really easy to use. I would strongly recommend this product.

Excelente producto. Lo uso por lo menos una vez al día y funciona muy bien. La doble función de extracción es lo mejor. Primero imita la estimulación del bebé para comenzar luego la extracción. No me causa dolor, y pese a ser manual es bastante rápido el proceso. Fácil de usar y de lavar, muy practico de llevar a cualquier lugar. Viene con dos biberones y una base que te permite apoyarlo mientras tomas un descanso o necesitas tus manos libres por un momento. Muy recomendable como extractor manual.

La marca es conocida por todos los que han teñido hijos ya , yo me guíe por esa respetuosa fama que tiene y me sumo a los que aconsejan comprar este producto .

Ne fait pas toujours bien le vide malgré un montage et un placement adéquats... ce qui rend le tirage bien moins efficace. Mais quand ça fonctionne c'est très bien. Dommage que je ne parvienne pas à savoir ce qui pêche parfois. Le joint à tendance à se déloger de temps à autres...
