Might change my review later, but for the first hour of operation, it really looks good. So far, whatever size we set it too, (ice size) is almost "exact" (at least to the minute - small ice size at 9 minutes on the first ice offering, 10 minutes on the second batch of ice at the medium size, and 13 minutes on the dot for the larger ice size) We purchased, didn't open and returned a unit from SAM's because we read the reviews for that unit when we got home. Not good, esp. over the long haul. The IGLOO seemed to get overall better reviews, but just in case, we did purchase the extended warranty thru an Amazon proxy supplier. (or possibly maybe just a "seller" of product warranty's) It's presently located inside the house and the ice in the bin says frozen. (while it's making ice) Since it was purchased for camping and might be located (and operating, esp. being opened and closed) outside on a picnic table, I guess we'll have to see how it does in that environment Pro : - It works (so far) like the manufacturer says it does - It's decently quiet, though not silent (if would never bother me) Con : - It's a little larger than I'd like, but I definitely wanted the IGLOO brand and anyway, I don't know if a smaller unit is even available from any other manufacturer - I kind of wish the scoop could be stored in a special place inside,. Not a big deal and will try simply laying it in the ice bin to start with (thinking about insects "visiting" the scoop if left lying out on a picnic table and "kids" touching the handle that is now touching.lying in the ice) (Might just use that ice for the cooler) Edit : OK, I want to edit my review after five or so straight days of "flat out" running the new ice maker 4 stars to 5 stars and it is "pouring ice out" - as for someone's issue of freezing the "wet ice," we don't see the problem. We are bagging the ice in gallon plastic bags and throwing it in the freezer. We weren't always particular quick about emptying the bin either. (so there was also some melting) It "does" stick together after deep freezing it, but if you drop the bag on the counter, the ice breaks apart perfectly. I guess we have 18 gallon sized bags of ice now, not counting what we used or threw out. I really like this thing. I do think "the mechanism" appears a bit fragile. It may not hold up and it (the machine) doesn't need any "little fingers" in it for any reason. The machine doesn't seem very "industrial," but I guess I'll update this later if it fails. But so far, we couldn't be happier with this unit

My husband was tired of travelling to the store every two or three days to buy me ice. Not just any ice at any store, it had to be a certain ice. Bless him, I have the best husband. I drink lots of ice water and love to chew on the ice. Our new home came with a fancy fridge with a built in ice maker/crusher that we don't use. The ice is too hard, and when you use the crushing option, it provides you with smaller chunks of razor like ice shards. Needless to say we don't even have it hooked up anymore. The ice I prefer is round with a hole in the center. I'm not sure how or why, but it produces a softer less deadly, chewable ice. I'm not a huge fan of the snow cone type ice as it melts too fast and even from the start there is really nothing to chew. So my husband figured he spends close to $400 a year on ice. This does not include transportation to and from the store. I found this ice maker online and he said "GET IT!!" I purchased it and told him not to get his hopes up because if I didn't like the ice it produces, it's going back. Well that isn't the case. I LOVE the ice, it's smaller and even softer than the ice we had been purchasing from the store. It also has the hole in the center of the cube, which makes me wonder if that is the key to soft chewable ice. The unit is fairly quiet. In fact it's much quieter that the refrigerator ice maker. I think it's because it has less of an ice drop to create that earth shattering noise. It works really fast. I've only made the large cubes, which are still fairly small, and it will produce them in about 10 minutes. It drops enough to fill a small glass, but in 10 more minutes you have more. We hooked it up, left the house for 2 hours and came home to a full bin of ice. I emptied into a large 2 gallon ziploc freezer bag. It took about 4 full bins to fill that bag up. When the ice enters the ziploc it's a little wet, so it tends to refreeze in the freezer and make a solid chunk. This chunk easily separates with one hard drop of the bag onto the counter, so this is not an issue at all. The 2 gallon bag takes up a lot less space in the freezer than the 20lb bag we had previously been buying. I primarily take from the counter top unit when I fill my glass and save my ziploc as a backup. The rest of the family uses a lot of ice and the unit does well to meet our demand. My only complaints (and they are by no means deal breakers) are that the counter unit is much larger than I was expecting. I wish it took up less space on the counter AND for being so large, the bin that holds the ice is rather small and fills up quickly. That's all.. Otherwise, I love it. So happy to have found it.

As explained below, this machine is unbeatable--for the first 16 months. But now in the 17th, I'm noticing black particles in the water. I clean them out, but they return with the next batch. They're not solid pieces of rubber (as one might expect from a worn-out gasket), but pieces of "mushy" blackness." This machine has been so good, my wife wants to buy another if it performs as well as this for the first year. I'm less certain, esp. if I have to pay more than $100 for such limited use. I'll try to reach the company to see if they've corrected a problem that does not appear to be mechanical but related to bad materials. ORIGINAL REVIEW: My wife has a hip injury and prefers remaining upstairs. She uses ice cubes on a daily basis, and our refigerator is downstairs, where it has been grooming me for my role as the iceman [who] cometh. However, as an individual who is not averse to drinking water at room temperature and, moreover, straight from the bottle, I'm no more a fan of ice cubes than our two cats. Solution: a portable, or "counter-top" (though ours is on the floor) ice maker. My wife deserves the credit for coming up with the idea, and then ordering the machine--the first of two that wimped out on us (I should know--these personal conveniences began to seem heavy after carrying them, a second time, from upstairs to the street curb, where the city disposal team picks them up, unless a private citizen (i.e. scavenger) gets there first. After these two strike-outs, I selected (and paid for) this particular IGloo machine with the LED buttons in a vertical row. I did my "research" (let's be honest and call it by the right word--ie, "shopping"), and I liked what I read about this machine from those whose observations were detailed, specific and realistic (for a hundred bucks you can't expect an arctic miracle machine--it's an "Igloo," not an Ice Palace). After ten months of daily use this particular Igloo is hitting close to 1000-- knocking out ice cubes that are as big, clear and sparkling as they were on the first day. My wife has had me move the machine from her office to the bathroom--where it not only keeps spitting out the cubes but lowers the temperature of the room by 5 degrees. I prefer warm (which fits my "room temperature" taste). But as long as this machine keeps up the good work, I'm not complaining. As far as cleaning, I simply wipe the bottom with a sponge now and then. At this point I have no reason to give the machine less than 5 stars. Perhaps my standards aren't as high as other shoppers, esp. after disposing of the first two machines in the first 2-3 months. But for the nice price, a year's worth of trouble-free service seems reason enough to recommend this small over-achiever. Any ice cubes after the first 12 months will be "gravy" (which I hate--so at the first sign of failure, this iGloo goes to the curb and gets replaced by a new model of the same machine.

This is a Wonderfully Amazing Machine!!! This is NOT a flimsy little machine. It is a heavy duty ice maker!!! It makes so much ice that I have to turn it off at times because my freezer is small and it gets full quickly!!! This machine has an off and on switch, so you can simply turn it off when you don't need it or when you have enough ice. The small ice cube setting makes a very large ice cube!!! It comes with a nice ice scoop that I keep in a gallon freezer bag in my freezer to dump my fresh ice into so that it will freeze hard. For those complaining about how wet the ice is when it comes out, the ice I buy in bags is wet, too!!! ICE IS WET before it freezes!!! Just put your fresh ice in a baggie, allow it to freeze hard, then break it up by slamming it on your counter, and dump it into your ice bag. At least, you won't have a huge lump of ice cubes all frozen together!!! This machine is heavy, so take it out of the box close to the table or counter where you plan to use it. You'll want to allow it to sit for 2 hours before using it because the Freon (or coolant) has to settle in the machine. The cleaning instructions are confusing, so I just wiped it down good and filled the reservoir. I threw out all the ice that it made out, drained it, and sopped up all the water, then refilled it. It makes ice very quickly, so soon I was putting ice in the freezer. I am so tickled!!! Now I don't have to remember to buy a bag of ice at the store!!! I am in ICE HEAVEN!!! This is a quality machine, so I don't expect any problems any time soon!!! However, if you are worried about it going out on you, buy the 4 year warranty like I did and then you'll have PEACE of MIND!!! UPDATE!!! In May 2018, after a year and 2 months of great service, this ice maker died! When I purchased my ice maker, I bought a 4 year warranty thru Square Trade. I have called and they have approved my claim and are going to send me a check!!! I went ahead and bought a new one. I hope that my new ice maker lasts as long as this one did!!!

Update 1/22/17: Well I promptly received the replacement from Amazon, their service as good as always. The replacement worked great for a few weeks. Then I started seeing a completely different failure than before. Now the low water sensor appears to have stopped working. The machine runs out of water but keeps going through its cycle perpetually, the low water light never turning on. I considered just dealing with the issue and checking the water level more frequently but decided to try one more machine since I'm still within the Amazon return period. Interestingly, while visiting family for Christmas I learned two things: (1) my parents are having similar issues with a similar unit that is a different brand (I forget the brand) and (2) there is a new alternative on the market called Opal that makes soft ice nuggets just like sonic ice. My aunt was part of the kickstarter and got a unit early but I understand anyone can order them now--they are expensive though, like $400 if I remember correctly. Anyway she loves it and hasn't had any issues so far; however she hasn't had it but a few weeks. I'm going to see how long I can keep this igloo working (or how long amazon will keep sending replacements!) and see whether my aunts Opal holds up well enough to justify the cost. Original review: It made one batch of ice before it stopped working. The "water bucket" where the ice cubes form cycles up and down multiple times and the compressor never turns on. The bucket appears to be trying to exceed its range of travel as it is pushing up against the exaporator prongs where the ice forms and misaligns itself. I suspect a bad sensor. In any case I'm returning it. I opted for a replacement instead of a refund, but I suspect I will regret that decision. Unfortunately all the ice machines on Amazon appear to have a high failure rate within a year based on the reviews. To be fair the 8 ice cubes i got from the thing we're great! I love eating ice and the ice cubes were soft and crunchy. Perfect for eating. If anyone knows of a soft ice maker that is not a piece of junk, please let me know.

Fantastic for hot summer days! This is extremely easy to use ! I ran it a few times to clean it when I first got it and then dumped the ice. And then there is a small line inside to where you fill the water too and it will produce the ice. It also comes with a scoop and is easy to clean every few weeks. When we are out for a few days, I drain it in the sink and unplug it with the lid open to keep it from mildew and running for no reason. So far we are very happy with it and have had it over a year now with no issues. It really doesn’t make a lot of noise that we have noticed.

So far, this countertop icemaker has been very good to us. It does make ice every six minutes as stated, and is very easy to use and refill the water tank. We have been using filtered water to cut down the scale build-up that we get because of the hard water in our house. The ice cubes are not totally clear, but that is not a problem considering this unit makes soft ice. The unit so far is been extremely reliable, consistent with the ice it makes, and also looks good on the countertop. Since it does not have any type of freezer unit built into it, just keep in mind that the ice at the bottom will eventually start to melt and drip back into the fill tank, this doesn't really seem to be an issue and if we don't use the ice for a fair amount of time, will just take the fresh cubes off the top and dump the old, and it will make new ice automatically once the level goes down. And being that it makes ice every 6 minutes it really doesn't take that long to fill the been back up. PROS: - Makes Ice Fast - Fairly Large Ice Bin and Water Tank - Ice Tastes Great especially when using filtered water - Looks and Fits Well on Standard Countertop - Easy to Maintain CONS: - A bit more noisy than most would like but it only takes a few days to get used to it then you don't really notice it all that much. - Ice will build up at the dispenser point and sometimes not fill the ice bin up all the way. This is a minor irritant and is easily fixed by casually opening the ice bin lid and using the included scoop to knock the ice into the bin. I've looked at a lot of different ice machines and read a lot of different reviews and came to the conclusion that this one seems like it has the best of both worlds, a decent price, and decent performance. So far I have not been disappointed. I would recommend this for anybody that's looking for a cost-effective decent icemaker that will crank out lots of ice 24 seven when needed.

Ice makers in freezers are a catastrophe, I've never had one work reliably. A relative got a countertop one and raved about it, so we tried it out. It was pretty good. It was relatively quiet. During the freezing portion, I didn't notice any noise unless I was standing right there. When the ice was frozen and dumped into the bucket, it obviously made noise as the ice dropped onto the other ice and the water refilled, but that was like 30 seconds every 90 minutes or so. The capacity to make ice was pretty good. At the time, we had season tickets to the local AHL team and tailgated a lot, plus hosting a bunch of BBQs at the house. We do have a chest freezer available, so we'd make ice continuously for a day or two beforehand and bag it and put it in the chest freezer and it made plenty to put in the coolers. I'd say if anything, the listed production is a little low. The bin is a bit on the small side for such large capacity. I mean, it doesn't freeze things any faster, it just makes more, so I'd get home from work, and get 3 or 4 loads in before letting it go overnight and it would be full and just refreezing the melted ice. The weekends we'd run it all day long and have plenty of ice available for the week. In that respect, the water capacity and the ice capacity were pretty well matched. For about a year, it was great. Our problem came with the sensor that stops making ice when the bin is full. It is just a little metal knob sticking out the side near the top of the bin, presumably attached to a thermocouple or other sensor inside. It would trigger kind of randomly, regardless of how much ice there was. It got worse over time, so that if it had any ice at all, it would trigger so that when the current batch of ice was done, it wouldn't refill the water and start the next batch. So, rather than having to empty the bin every 6 hours or so, every 90 minutes I'd have to walk over and pinch the metal knob between my thumb and middle finger for a couple of seconds to get the next batch to go. I tried a bunch of things to alleviate it, like wrapping it with some wiring to add more bulk and make it less sensitive, or wrapping the knob with a few twists of wire and hanging the other end out of the machine into the kitchen air or eventually trying a glass of water at room temp. None of that worked. I eventually took it apart to see what else I could do, and just tossed it. The problem is there are almost no screws - the insulated part where the ice bin sits is molded in and not removable. Removing screws and prying apart the case, the entire interior between the case and the ice/water is filled with insulation, it looks like expanding foam. I still ranked if 3 stars because it was great and maybe we just got a bad sensor or maybe someone else in the house damaged it somehow (not sure how, it still seemed solid, and due to the foam there isn't really any place it could move). If it were really meant to last a year, I'd put it at 1 star, but I could have just gotten unlucky.

Got this for my sister, works great so far and she loves it. If you don’t have an ice maker in your fridge or room in your freezer for ice cube trays, this works great.

-Update- this machine broke after 8 months. The plastic inside cracked and leaked water. This Amazon listing is labeled as Igloo brand, but it's Frigidaire. This was a problem when I tried to do a warranty claim. Thankfully Amazon took it back and issued me a refund. However! I didn't get the full amount that I paid for the machine back. I would avoid buying this. Especially if it continues to be wrongly branded - your warranty will not work. I'm now on to machine number 3 Original: I love it! I bought this to replace an ice machine that broke down. This is significantly better than my old machine. It's quick and quiet. Love it and have no complaints!
