CRAFTSMAN Adjustable Wrench, 18-Inch (CMMT81626)

Had to get this to deal with several large hydraulic fittings on skid steer. Well made and just the right size that I needed.

I have a great dislike for modern crescent wrenches. The cheapness of the builds for most “common” brands has driven my to Knipex Pliers-Wrench or fixed end wrenches. The last set of crescents I got from a home building store had so much travel in them that if the bold your removing has sufficient torque that the wrench will slip. I also must say there is only so much value I place on a wrench…sure there are some very fine crescent wrenches by mechanic centric companies, but those aren’t worth it to me. There are some jobs when I need a bigger wrench. On my tractor or other equipment the ability to have reach as well as leverage is quite helpful. I had been looking for a wrench and amazons price on the craftsman seemed to make sense. If all goes bad it at least has a lifetime warranty. The travel isn’t too bad given the size fittings or bolts you plan to use it for. With a 1” opening there is about a 1/16” of travel, at 2” it is just slight of an 1/8” but a full 3/32 for sure. My experience with box store brands is that is about the same amount of travel you will get in an 8” wrench open a 1/2”. The wrench has metric marks on one side and SAE (English) on the other. Not every one needs this big a wrench, and for me I didn’t want to spend $100+ on one. I spend money on tools for sure but I have lost more wrenches and the like than I own. I promised myself long ago to never buy a 100, 200 or more piece set as I seem to write my own Agatha Christie novel (and then there where none). Originally, that’s why I liked crescents…no need to specify 1/2” or 9/16”. This is a solid wrench weighing in at 74 ounces. I see no stamp as to country of origin on the wrench. Overall, a solid buy that will likely serve its purpose.

Been using craftsman tools for years this is still a cut above the lower tool brand for tier and matching price point represents a good value.

Haven’t used product yet. Got it to replace a true craftsman American made wrench that was stolen. Hopefully this one will be half the wrench that one was. Seems built good adjusting mechanism worked very smooth. Do like size etched in the side of jaws. Reason for getting is tapered handle, that will accept a pipe over it. Hopefully it will stand it

I work in the oil fields. If you want great quality tools that are dependable then craftsman tools are the way to go.

Looks good and should work well, cheaper here than in store, oh yea no more stores.

Just like the other 4 star review on here, the product package was opened and laying in the Amazon box separately from the wrench itself. Not sure why it was like this. Possibly returned by someone else?? It might sound trivial, but I oddly felt a bit cheated. The wrench itself is great though.
