IMPORTANT TOOL for every network engineer.
It's basic, but it's necessary, and it works VERY well. Can't tell what switchport a wall port goes to? Throw on loopback detection on every port, plug this thing in, BOOM! Port identified! WAY easier than toning out cables!

Horrendous Quality Control
This flat out does not work. I have tried it on every port on every device I own including a router, unmanaged Ethernet switches, managed Ethernet switches, and all of my computers. The lights on the network interface stay off on all of them and these are all working interfaces. I'm sure some of these work after reading some of the other reviews, but the quality control on these products is horrendous and I would advise anyone to not take a chance on these and read carefully any reviews of other loopback plugs you are thinking about buying.

I got no use out of this. I won't give it a bad review just for that, but it could be more clear as to what it does. I wanted to use it to test my home data jacks, but I guess it's really only made to test cables? I still don't get it.

As a Network Engineer/Admin, you need to keep these on hand (along with a T1 crossover if you deal with telephony). They just work and they're cheap. Never had an issue with these and I've ordered them time and time again for many applications.

It does work on a gigabit switch. You just have to wait a couple of second before the light on the switch start flashing. I found out the hard way. Patience is the key.
