Does this have a storage area for the usb dongle when not in use?

No unfortunately this does not have a place for the USB dongle in this model, the battery is not accessible at all! the Dongle comes in a separate piece of cardboard, there is no way to access the battery without a special screwdriver that allot of consoles use to make it a pain, I just kept the box to keep it all together with the charging cable, it was better then my masking tape idea :( this is the first RII device I've had that you couldn't do that with but unfortunately for some reason it keeps shutting down my PC at random times only when I have this plugged in and no one else seems to have this problem, it works great when it's on lol

Can it operate via a USB cable attached to the charging connector, or only the dongle?

When I connect to my computer, it doesn't detect any device. This suggests that they only connected the voltage pins (for charging) and not the data pins...
