Works perfectly for my needs!
This micca player is fantastic. This tiny little box (smaller than a deck of cards) takes up to a 4TB hard drive or thumb drive. It plays whatever I throw at it except H265 encoded videos. That is a fairly new standard so I haven't run into it much. This little box travels with me so I can use it in hotel rooms or at a friends. You can even download large videos off of youtube (using 3rdm party websites) to watch in comfort on tv. No I don't do streaming because the wifi is no good for you. Also I don't want my "smart" tv having internet access so it can spy on me. This package is good to get if you need an HDMI cable. It's cheaper then buying separate. Hook up is easy. One power cable and one HDMI cable. Plug in your usb media. Put batteries in the remote. Select the HDMI input on your tv and your good to go.

Fantastic despite shortcomings
Love this little player. I run two 8TB drives on it.Some cons,Horrible remote. When you press exit it kicks you out the movie you're watching. Doesn't allow. you to go back to the menu unless you go through the not user friendly menu.Hard drive titles dont match the HD.Still love it despite all its shortcomings as I can watch my full collection of about 3000 disks

It does display pictures
As advertised, it displays Jpeg's on screen. However, it lacks features of other video players that I like. First is the ability to fast forward through a particular video to get to a particular spot. Second is a feature to jump forward or backward to a different video

Great picture, worse interface, disfunctional remote
Picture quality is great even in 1080p large filesInterface is worse than on the previous Micca. Why change something that works so well? Especially, why move the "info" function from large OK button to a small "Info" button? Now, large OK button literally does nothing when you watch a movie, but to see how much time is left you need to locate and press a tiny "info" buttonREMOTE IS HORRIBLE. Maybe mine is broken, but:- I need to press 2-3 times before it reacts (wasn't the case with prior Micca Speck)- Half of the time the buttons mix up (I push "Pause", it stops, and the other way around)- Seems to have a very narrow beam or something - I need to be really close to the device and point exactly straight at it for the remote to workThis is highly annoying - unless there's a fix, I'm going to look for another player.

Great unit for the price
This player works great for my needs. I have now purchased 4 of these units for family and friends and everyone loves it. Easy to use and great quality playback. I gave one to my 88 year old father who doesn't usually get along with technology, and thinks its great.

Smaller than you think
Purchased to use as a cheap commercial sign display. The interface seems straight forward. IR remote doesn't seem super strong. Keep that in mind if you plan on hiding the unit very much.

Doesn't handle 4TB drive well.
Ordered the MPLAY-HD Mini so that I would be able to access larger media collection on a 4TB usb harddrive (my G2 could only handle up to a 2TB usb harddrive). Unfortunately it's a fail. The micca can't read any media on the 4TB drive. Plug my 2TB in and it can read that ok. The 4TB is formatted NTFS which supposedly the MPLAY-HD should be able to read. Verified the harddrive works fine with PCs. Reformatted the drive to exFat...the micca still can't read it. I guess I'm still stuck using 2TB drive. I'm giving it 1 star since this is primarily the reason I purchased it for.
